which diesel to install...

In the near future, I plan on having a cummins diesel transplanted to my '94 F350. I want the ability to use bio-diesel so the computerized cummins are out of the question. I want max horse power/torque (who doesn't) and simplicity. Which year engine should I use? 12 or 24 valve?

thanks in advance

You pretty much answered your own question when you said the electronic (computerized) 24 valve is out unless you want to adapt a 12 valve injector pump to the 24 valve engine and do away with all the electronics.
But why would you want to do all that when all you need for the old 12 valve is a wire to the starter and a wire to the fuel solenoid and you're in business. And, your wallet is the limit as far as HP goes too.

the one you want is the 96-98 5sp rated at 215hp... biggest baddest injection pump they put on these engines in a Dodge.

Why can't you use bio-diesel in with the computerized engines? Didn't I read recently that some DTR members have been using bio-diesel in their new Rams?

you can, but the P7100 pump is much tougher and there's less worry of clogging injectors.

besides, why would anyone in their right mind swap a 24v into ANYTHING!?!?

Looking at the numbers for #2 diesel and the various mixes of Biodiesel (B-2, B-5, B-10, B-20, and B-100) I would actually be running for biodiesel for a 24v engine. Should be MUCH better for the VP-44 than straight dino fuel! For your swap, however, the simplicity of the 12 valve does seem the right choice, just to avoid the problems mating the Cummins ECM to the Ford computers and the Navistar controller (if it was a diesel.)

i can have fordcummins.com install a diesel in my ford for ~$5,000 in labor, parts extra. i know there is more to installing the engine then just a wire to the starter and a wire to the solenoid. can a layperson tackle the transplant? also, someone mentioned that i need fiberglass lined tanks. is there any truth to it?

there's definately more to installing the engine than a wire to the starter and a starter to the solenoid...

you'll also need motor mounts and a couple hoses!
