Diesel Injection System Cleaning

Ok. So there's a shop up here that is advertising a diesel injection system cleaning service. Basically they hook your post fuel filter lines up to this machine and start the truck and this machine pumps this cleaning solution through the injection pump, injectors, cleans the pistons and heads, anything that the fuel touches, it cleans. It takes about an hour and a half to do and cost $150. The guy swears by it. He had one for gassers and it worked so well that he kept pestering this company to make one for diesels and they finally did. The guy seems on the up and up and knew his stuff about diesels. Even knew about the lift pump issues on our trucks and stuff like that. What do yall think? I'm halfway tempted.

BG Products makes a machine for just that application. The sales rep says it's the way to go especially on the gen III because of the incredibly fine spray and how easily they clog. Granted he may be a little biased but I have heard from some techs that it's a great product as well. Might be worth it to have it done.

i dont get how it works...does it "T" into the line and add the cleaing soultion to your fuel, or is it a cleaner and fuel mix that the machine pumps thru to make the engine run, and if so where does the the fuel being pumped to the fuel filter go?

I would assume that it has to t in otherwise you'd have a big mess of really expensive diesel all over the ground. I might swing by today and check it out and see if I can't watch them perform one. I figure that with 103k miles and quite a few of them smokey, my truck could use a good cleaning. All they claim is that it restores your original power and mileage back. Not add any, just restore it back to what it was like when you drove it off the lot. They claim that it doesn't harm the injection pumps nor injectors.

or, since it is a dealer, they want to get you in there to suck some of the life out of your lift pump and VP so that they will see you in a few months for a new one on your dime.

I don't know...I'd be worried about the VP. They can claim it won't harm a VP but chances are the damage done to it by the cleaning process won't cause it to fail right away, but 6-7K miles down the road. I'd just keep feeding it PS or the like.

It's amazing that you can bash the dealer out of nothing. He said nothing about it being a dealer he said it was a shop. Again I've heard nothing but good things about this service and the way it cleans all the carbon deposits that collect through out the system. BTW don't bash be it was just an observasion.

That's what I'm worried about. I've got 103k miles on my original one and it's been tapped for quite a while. So far so good, knock on wood.

If you have read here enough on this site, you will know that some of the members have asked about this service before. It usually is from the dealer, which they just want to make a hundred or so quick bucks off of you. If you take care of your truck and use additives, which I am sure Blue does, then you really should not need this. Also, the best way to clean up a cummins is to hook it to something heavy and pull it around for 30 minutes or so. Work it hard, and she will love you to death.

Add a can of Sea Foam every oil change. You are good to go, and it is only $5.00.

Well I don't tow but I have been known to swing the EGT gauge around a time or two. I used to run additives every tank but I haven't in a while. Probably about time.

Geico, do you just go and pour the sea foam directly into the oil? I've had great experience with it on gassers but never played with it on a diesel. Maybe I'll go and pick a can up today and dump it in the tank and the oil. Couldn't hurt anything.

If it is the same one I seen at the dealership then all they do is hook a spray nozzle up to the intake and spray cleaner in their while they high idle the truck for an hour or so. Suppose to clean the upper end pretty good.

The Sea Foam goes in the tank.
