Some good mentions here about warranty options and 'roadside sniffers'. The first I totally agree with and the second I was totally unaware. I don't know of anything like this in the state of Florida...........yet. This would go against my grain 100%, gauranteed!!

To re-focus, this is not about the reliability of the Ford motor. Its about the future of diesels in general. What the man is saying I believe is that its not about Cummins, Navistar, or Isuzu, its about EPA. Things have unfortunately changed in a dramatic way.

I hope he keeps the insight coming. I will watch this thread as I think he is dead on in what he says. Time will tell who is right or wrong, but I'll lay my money on what he says.

I appreciate what CButler 610 said. He is right in that I am not bashing anyones diesel or truck in general for that matter. I can honestly say I see the up sides to any of the big three's trucks. The new foreign ones have their merits too for that matter. I am just not a fan, I would rather buy American. But to make some blanket statement like " Japanese trucks are junk" (which I actually have not heard here) is to bury your head in the sand and the American auto makers did that for many years. Which has placed them in the position they are now. Systematically, one by one being replaced as leaders in world and yes American auto manufacturing.

What Nascar fan who has been a fan since the biggest rivals were Darryl Waltrip, Davy Allison, Bill Elliot and Dale Sr. Would have ever thought that Toyota would be running in Nascar? We are talking fairly recent history here. Dodge, or Daimler Benz actually, is owned by a Foreign manufacturer!! Who would have guessed that when real Hemis ruled the streets? Mighty Ford at a serious risk as being supplanted as the second biggest auto company in their own country! And Toyota has announced that the corporate plan is to be the largest auto manufacturer in the world. That is the company's future plan. Not a guess just read their press releases.

It was not long ago that GM was the largest corporation in the world several times over. Not just in autos but in anything, and they were the biggest for decades. They are not in the top five any more.

We absolutely should support our beloved brands. Rivalry is good. It has brought us 650ft lbs stock in new trucks. That is a number that was unthinkable for a truck you could buy off the lot as recently as 10 years ago. Do you know why you can buy 600+ ft lbs pickups? Thank a Duramax, and yes thank a Powerstroke. Cummins was first to the party with a real high powered Diesel, true. Ford several years later, and GM, slow as alway, last to the party. But now what a party it is!

Do any of you truly believe that Cummins/Dodge would be selling us trucks with 600+ torque were it not for Ford and GM breathing down there necks?
Don't switch allegiances, thats no fun.

But trust me, you guys want the new Powerstroke to be good, so that Cummins will have reason to be better, and keep improving the breed.
