Diesel Grand Cherokee coming to the US!!
From today's edition of Autotech Daily:
"Riding on the success of the diesel-powered Jeep Liberty midsize SUV, Chrysler Group will offer a “Bluetec” 3.0-liter oil burner in the Jeep Grand Cherokee CRD full-size SUV next year. The model will be the largest diesel SUV sold in the U.S. The new six-liter powerplant, built by Mercedes in
Berlin, produces 215 hp and 376 lb-ft of torque. The diesel’s torque is slightly higher than that of the Grand Cherokee’s optional 5.7-liter Hemi V-8.
Towing capacity is listed at 7,400 lbs. Fuel economy is expected to be 19 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway, extending driving
range to 425 miles per fill-up. The current 3.7-liter gasoline V-6-powered Grand Cherokee is rated at 17 mpg city/21 mpg highway.
Available in the Grand Cherokee Laredo, Limited and Overland models, the 3.0-liter common rail diesel features Mercedes’ clean-diesel technology. The Bluetec system combines a variety of advanced features such as a four-valve-per-cylinder configuration, piezoelectric fuel injectors, CDI direct injection and a variable nozzle turbocharger. It also includes an oxidizing catalytic converter and particulate filter. Chrysler says the combination cuts carbon dioxide emissions by up to 20%. The system bows this summer on the
Mercedes E320 sedan in the U.S. equipped with the 3.0-liter diesel engine."
Unless things change, it won't be coming to any of the CARB states, and that would include mine...

Diesel Grand Cherokee
Hey Listen Up, just read in the money section of today's local paper, they are not only going to cancel the Grand Cherokee, but also drop the Liberty because of the new emissions standards for 07'. I would not get to excited yet. Supposely they are going to continue research on a different angle for the newer motors.

So we are losing the Liberty diesel and getting a Grand Cherokee (not to be confused with a Cherokee) diesel. Should we expect the Libby diesel to make a come back when they get emissions figured out?
I feel like DC is missing the bullseye AS USUAL here. I think they should've done a Wrangler diesel and a Dakota diesel (manual transmission availability a must) and stuck with the gassers in the grocery getters.

So much for the VM powerplant. I guess it's easier to stock German than Italian engine parts? I found a smashed up Liberty CRD last month. I was gonna take the engine n put it in an old Dak, but it wouldn't fit.
