diesel fuel
Any truth to the a friends comments that an "improved"diesel fuel will be required to be refined in the next few years. I am concerned that with diesel running $.30 per gallon more than gas here in western pa, that the price is only going to go up and not down.
I was considering a CTD in the spring but now am thinking about a gasser. Any thoughts?
Thanks

The "new and improved" fuel is just the ultra low sulfur fuel mandated by the government. Right now you are running low sulfur. I believe it is supposed to be .05% sulfur when it hits the market.

You could be using ULSD now Anyway here's some reading.......

ULSD has been available to fleet operators since 2001. I know we've been getting some of it since 2003. They tell me that the reason our 2D prices have been so much higher, to get us used to the price. As far as the cetane number being higher, that may be true, but who's going to enforce it?
I got gouged on the price of fuel in Fla last month....$2.60/gal. Six blocks away the same brand was $2.39/gal. So I called Fla's Anti Gouging hotline and was told they don't monitor the price of diesel, only gasoline!

Guys the law passed in 2000. Starting next year, the whole country will be switching over to ULSD. Current diesel is .05% or 500ppm sulfur, and the new ULSD will be 15ppm sulfur. UNFORTUNATELY the EPA didn't include cetane in this agenda - so the cetane will remain at it's miserable minimum of 40.
As mentioned above, ULSD has been available for a few years to fleets, and though select Arco stations in California.
I can't wait till ULSD comes - those of us that own diesels with EGR will say goodbye to clogged intakes!
