I was hoping for a better mileage quote than that. I thought the Dodge Sprinters were beating that for mileage with their diesel.

That mileage is low.Thier European Grand Cherokee gets much better highway and combined.

http://www.jeep.co.uk/jeep/versions.aspx?ID=465,18,108

City: 21.6 mpg
Highway: 32.8mpg
combined: 27.7 mpg

The engine looks like the same unit 215hp and 376ft/lbs . Wonder why the big difference in fuel economy.
Could the Euro jeep be geared different? but such a big mpg difference from different gearing

Could it be.....Humm a conspiracy....to appease the oil companys (me rubs chin, ponders deeply )

What tranny is in the Euro model. I bet the usa version has that same 5 speed auto that is in the diesel Liberty. It has torque management issues.

Nahhh. Emisssions right??? You have to burn more fuel to do it cleanly. Oil companies have nothing to do with it.

About the only thing bigger here in the UK than in America is the gallon. Our gallon is bigger than yours hence the better mileage.
A US gallon is 3.7 litres and the UK gallon is 4.546 litres.

There is only one answer to that.... And I think this smiley face jamming on the guitar sums it all up. . Scoreboard for the Brit.

The difference is the gallon size
That´s why it makes more mpg in Britain compared to the U.S.

If I moved to the UK, I would be getting almost 25mpg on the highway That has to be the best way to improve mileage I have ever heard of If I added a fuel line magnet and 2 pills in the tank, I should easily be over 35mpg

I almost forgot, I would love to have a diesel Grand Cherokee.

The engine looks like the exact smae one as the Euro one. Soo I take it its an ultra low sulphur diesel.

Is American ultra low sulphur diesel the same as Euro ultra low sulphur diesel?

PS What are the axles on the Grand Cherokee. Dana 30s?, 44s?
