Deutz Turbo Diesel Question
My bro-n-law has one of these little engines on a Vemeer stump grinder. It was running the other day and just shut down. He said there was smoke coming out of the right front corner of the engine. I looked at it, and it appears to be a fuel solenoid, the plastic insulator is all melted. Can't really get any help from the local dealerships, (Duetz and Vemeer) I'm thinking I can pull the solenoid off and start the engine, and possibly use the manual lever on the side of the engine to shut it down????? I realize that the low oil pressure shutdown switch probably wont work. But parts seem scarce and he's in the middle of a big job and needs to run...
Any thoughts, opinions, ideas????? Thanks!

That Should work...we sold Deutz tractors but never used those smaller engines that Vermeer did.
If you get the Engine Serial Number and model number, a Deutz ENGINE dealer should be able to help you...the Deutz engine dealers and Deutz Tractor dealers are usually different!
They are awesome engines BTW

we have a lot of fuel solenoid failures on our Duetz's at work..
on ours you can hear the click of the solenoid soon as you turn the key "on"
what engine is it?? a 1011??

Yeah... theres no clicking going on at the solenoid. Even put my hand on it to see if I could feel it click, nothin. I told him it was his fault for buying the wrong yellow (not Cat) hahaha.. I'm gonna try it tomorrow, see if I can get it running. I guess next the oil pump will fall off and he'll cook it down.!!. Thanks for all the responses.

Got it running.... What a PAIN to work on small engines!!!... Talked to a guy at an equipment rental place that uses alot of these engines. He said the same thing that 53 ****** said... LOTS of failures. They supposedly have an update part that is better. The new part is $450.00!!!

Yea, I think I'm just gonna put a low oil pressure switch and light on his operators console and let him run it like it is. The machine is about 8 years old, engine looks like a throw away design to me anyway. Also going to rig up a "choke cable" on the fuel kill lever so he doesn't have to walk around the machine and open the engine panel to shut it down anymore.
