Is DC shooting themselves in the foot??

isn't dropping the V-10 and not having a big block V-8 kinda like dropping the extended cab?
I dont need a quad cab truck. 99% of the time, Im the only one in my truck. My back seat is full of clothes, straps, tool boxes, etc. Granted the standard cab dodge has as much room behind the seat as my frontier.

iker42,
The truck that I see is silver. This guy owns a landscape business. He has 6 or 7 V10s and was forced to buy a Cummins since the V10 is no longer available. He said he hated it cause it didn't warm up fast enough for him. People complain about the smallest things. Having a Cummins is worth being cold for a few minutes...anyday!

DC didn't sell a lot of the V10s to begin with. People either went with the Cummins or the 360V8 most of the time. I picked the V10 because of the torque and it got about 1 mpg less than the V8. It was a nice engine. As for the Hemi not being enough power for a 2500, that is pretty funny. A lot of real work trucks in the world move just fine with less power and torque. Did you hear a lot of complaining about the original Cummins / Dodge combo and what were they rated at? Look at the Sprinter, Isuzu N series, etc. and if you only need a 3500 for the payload, why not the V8?

We have a few of the V10 Dodge trucks at work. They have decent power, but I hate the sound of them. They sound like a V6!!! I love the sound of an inline 6 and a V8, but despise a V6 for their sound.

Don't know where you guys are coming from but after four Cummins powered Rams, I traded my '03 with the dreaded driveline vibe that DC gave up on, for a Hemi powered duplicate. It does a fine job of towing our 10,040 lb 5th wheel around the southeast. We run the same speeds one gear down from the Cummins in every situation. We're getting about the expected 30% less mileage. The Hemi has plenty of power for the HD trucks. I may be back in a Cummins powered Ram one day but it won't be because the Hemi is lacking for power...

There is a guy that I work out with, he had his truck in for the vibration when he noticed another guy chewing the manager out. The service manager told him that guy had been in half a dozen times for the drive line problem in his 1500 and they finally told him there was nothing else they could do.
Its not a cummins thing or a heavy duty thing, its a dodge truck thing.

I know it's not limited to the Cummins powered Rams, the vibration that is, but, in the 2500 2X4s, the driveline vibe is very rare in the Hemi powered Rams but was pretty common in the Cummins powered Rams. Maybe the production line for the Cummins powered Rams got a bad batch of "heavy duty" pinion yokes. In '03, both trucks got the 10.5" AAM if it was a SO Cummins with 47RE like mine was but all Cummins powered Rams got the heavy duty pinion yokes. After reading here that someone got their's fixed by replacing the pinion assembly, I can't help but believe that's where the dreaded driveline vibe lives in the 2X4s and that would explain why the Hemi powered Rams didn't have the vibe while the Cummins powered Rams did even though it was NOT engine vibes. By the time it was discovered and DC is still denying it, I had already traded mine.
10mpg better with triple the power? Fssst...fsssst... cough cough... hey I got the munchies man!

Personally, it seems like a terrific waste to put a gas engine in these trucks. Solar, i've seen the V-10 guy, and all I can say is . Longer life, better mileage, better torque, pretty much makes it a done deal for me. Drivetrain issues aside, for any HD use, diesel is the proven winner.
