Didn't want that argument to get out there ;D
[/quote]

yea, it was one of those urban legends. I even had a dodge dealer tell me that. but here's the real story straight from Cummins:

* At one time, Ford owned a 7% share in Cummins
* Since that time, Cummins has bought back that interest
* At the time I spoke with cummins directly, Ford had a zero interest (that is, stock ownership) in Cummins
* Dodge has exclusive contracts with cummins to supply truck engines until 2007 I think (if I remember right, it was a 5 year contract that began in 2002).

Re:CUMMINS VS. POWERJOKE
I am wondering if they will sign Cummins after 2007 or use Detroit diesel. Freighliner does not even have Cummins as an option for the Business Class trucks. So I think that Dodge will move to the Detroit diesels. The Detroit diesels are a D.C product. I really don't know much about them. I am just guessing that's what will happen since freightliner does not use Cummins as option. Or at least there sight does not show Cummins as an option. Just Detroit and Cat. So we will have to see what happen. If that happens i will be sad to see the Cummins go. We will see. -Anthony

Re:CUMMINS VS. POWERJOKE
I originally bought my first Dodge, the '91, because of the Cummins - I quickly grew to respect the overall quality of the rest of the truck as well - and absolutely love my '02 - but still, the engine is the heart of the truck, and it WILL be interesting to see what happens if Dodge chooses to dump Cummins like they did Dana...

If it was me, I'd just smile. And I'd smile every time I fired up in cold weather with no hesitation or extra cranking. And every time I fueled up and bought a gallon or two less. And every time I needed to access anything in the engine compartment, and didn't need to have midget hands or special tools. And I'd still be smiling when I was paid off and he was on his second or third truck and still making payments.

If it bothers you a little, then invest about $300 in a set of RV injectors, and be sure to mention that you would now edge him out unless he spends significantly more on mods.

If it bothers you a lot, the sky is the limit.

The Fords have their good points too, but I picked the one that was right for me.

Re:CUMMINS VS. POWERJOKE
I grew up in a Ford dominated house hold, and to this very day I am still a Ford fan. I owned a 1987 F250 with the 6.9 diesel for 5 years before I bought my Cummins powered Dodge in late 2000. I wanted a Ford, but just could not stomach the PowerStroke engine. I did my research, and decided I wanted a Cummins, and it just happened to come wrapped in Dodge packaging ;D

There are a ton of reasons I wanted the Cummins, but mainly for power, logevity, proven history of Cummins in general and this specific engine.

I have friends and even my dad continually give me a hard time about driving a Dodge, but I just keep my comments to myself. I have learned about any passionate subject, that regardless of whatever reasons, facts or opinions you can produce to justify your particular opinion, the other person usually will never be swayed to your side of the issue when they are very passionate about their belief.

I am also guilty of this. For example, I will never own anything from GM, especially a Chevy, even if it had a Cummins from the factory and Ford and Dodge both didn't even offer any diesel engine!

We all have our preferences, and when it gets heated, it is usually best to just keep your opinions to yourself and just let it blow over

My $.02

Tom
