General Diesel Discussion Talk about general diesel engines (theory, etc.) If it's about diesel, and it doesn't fit anywhere else, then put it right in here.

Can't recall seeing any chevies with plows on around here, mostly furds and dodges. It's well known that any weight hanging off the front end(whether it's a winch or plow) will cause more rapid front end problems, and more so on a chevy, because of the design characteristics of an independent front end, as compared to solid axles.

BTW most p/u truck snow plow kits, even commercial use ones, don't weight much more than 300-400lbs total. DIY kits are usually about 200-250 lbs, as I just helped put one on my next door neighbours ford p/u truck that he bought from Walmart for about$900.

Got something in your throat there Dodgezilla ?

C'mon, buddy... you can say it. Not Ferd. Its FOORRRDDD.... It doesn't rhyme with bird. It isn't a hairy mammal. Say it after me. FFOORRDD.... FFOORRDD.... Thats it. We'll practice it more later. No you can't have a beer. Tomorrows word will be sick liter. I mean six liar. I mean sick... oh, never mind.

Back to the issue at hand.

You need 38" from firewall to rad to do it with a 3rd gen. Cummins.

www.cummins-conversion.com.

Don't worry about the front end. The front end of that truck probably weighs 4,000 pounds. Another 200ish pounds (980-780) aren't going to make a big difference. Guys have put Cummins into S10s. They said the front end was OK, but the ball joints were standing up well.

ZF6 or Allison ?

The guys here are great. For the most part. Except some that start with D...

Excuse their little motor/engine thing.

They've treated me really well.

Bird doesn't rhyme with Ford?

I guess somebody took a few years to pass 1st grade, huh?

I had a book for years... Motors and Engines... It had two sections, one about each of the afore mentioned devices. And it said the devices dere differentiated by being electrical and mechanical. I was wrong. I have been before and will be again.

I tried to impart what insight I had, and give him a few things to think about.

Otherwise, I agree with the Texan from OK.
I went to engineering school too many years ago (the 1960s), but what's under the hood of our truck as I learned it is an engine - examples are gasoline engines, steam engines, diesel engines, gas turbines, etc.

A motor, on the other hand, does not rely on a chemical or thermodynamic reaction to produce mechanical power. Examples are electric motors, hydraulic motors, air motors, etc.

But what do I know? I've only worked for a company that manufactures engines, compressors (reciprocating and centrifugal), gas turbines, turbochargers, control systems, etc. for over 30 years.....
