They raced it and it did very well if I remember correctly. I think it won the Pole but lost the race due to a clogged up air intake. They stopped racing it because Indy banned turbochargers for a long period after that.

At the same time that Agabashian shocked the racing world by winning the 1952 pole, several Chrysler and Dodge stock-block, 331-cubic-inch engines were being tested. All were recording speeds as fast or faster than the 270 Offys used by the so-called establishment team owners. Fearing their engines would be made obsolete by either the diesel or the Detroit V-8s, the Offy owners brought pressure on the AAA Contest Board to pass rules reducing displacement of the upstarts to a level where they could no longer compete.

I actually have the magazine with the article. It is really cool to let other people know that a diesel can do so well. Was it LeMans this past year or so that they had a diesel win? Not sure if that is the correct race or not.

LGP,that was one of Cummins later efforts.The earliest was I believe around 1931.In the late 30's there were two cars entered,a two stroke and a four stroke.The four stroke went out with transmission failure.The two stroke finished the race in last place.
