Cummins falling behind again?
I keep reading the Diesel Truck rags, and it seems Cummins is now way behind in the HP and Torque wars with Ferd and Brand X.
Anyone know of anything on the horizon that will put us back on top?

They can have the upper hand on HP and TQ at this point. Cummins should hold the power levels, increase reliability and mileage.
Unfortunately the stupid people that keep breeding seem to gather towards the darkness at which point they ruin it for all of us. They generate sales spikes that cause the marketing folks and bean counters to go into fits. Chrysler and Cummins need an all out advertising campaign to educate the sheep on how to become knowledge driven consumers.

The big numbers make the Frod more paletable after the barf-in-mouth from the 6.0 era. Not that they need any help in the sales dept. but they know that lots of chrome on the grill and a big HP number sells so who can argue with that?
The rest of use just drive trucks. Cummins for 22 years.. nuf said..

Yes, but EVERYONE knows that a V8 always makes more power than a inline 6. I've seen some dyno numbers for ford's 6.7 and its about 300 to 305 at the wheels, whereas our 6.7's are 280ish. Thats not that much difference when they are claiming 40 hp and 85 foot lbs of torque difference. Sniffing around the ford forums, the newer trucks are getting better fuel economy, but nothing stellar. If you add in the amount of urea and that added cost, the difference is marginal. 14 to 17.5 hand calculated for the people who are honest.

I think that Cummins is going to come out with a monster myself...here we are just sitting by watching the D-Maxes and Powerstrokes duke it out and then POW!!! They are gonna come out with and engine that is totally gonna raise the bar in terms of HP/TQ, transmissions, and technology...that is MHO

I can tell you that Ferds and brand X d-max's are breaking a lot of rods and blowing a lot of injectors under warranty, so they don't seem to care about upping their power levels on light duty engines. The Cummins (being medium duty) have so much more leeway for power production. I imagine there is indeed resistance within Cummins to really turn up the juice because their standards are 100% peak torque duty cycle testing, and reliability and logevity is their culture. On the other hand, getting their **** handed to them by inferior power plants has got to chap them. It does me!

Thanks for being "the one"
There's always someone willing to jump up when I say that.
This whole thread is ridiculous. How could Cummins be "behind" just because Ford advertized a new number on a new unproven engine? Behind what? Oh, behind in engine failures. Behind in warrantee problems. Behind in the number of cabs being removed. Behind in the number of brand new designs to fix the old ones. Behind in the number of lawsuits with Navistar? Sheesh.
