General Diesel Discussion Talk about general diesel engines (theory, etc.) If it's about diesel, and it doesn't fit anywhere else, then put it right in here.

Ouch... over 400% more problems... makes me glad I didn't get the Ford... I did look, but boy am I glad I didn't bite. And they wanted 6K more for less options... must be to pay for the warranty work.

That report says what may have speculated about for a long time. No way I'll be caught driving a 6.0 PSD.

I was going thru an intersection this morning, passing a stopped, new F350 PSD. I glanced at the guy and noticed that his gaze followed me all the way thru the intersection....

Obviously wishing he were behind the wheel of something else!

Ouch!

Its hard to shed a good light on the PStroke with statistics like that.
However, my brother-in-law has a 6.0L PStroke and has had no problems (mechanically) at all.

When I started looking at diesels last fall, I wandered around FordTrucks.com, a site I found when I bought my Expedition.

One of the common complaints were cold starting problems with the new 6.0PSD's. Seems Ford put out a TSB for it that involved flashing the computer with new sortware. It apparently took care of the cold starting problem but put mileage and power into the tank. And it wasn't reverseable or something like that.

I've never been a GM guy so the Duramin was out. And I've ALWAYS loved the CTD. And I wanted a RAM when they first came out in '94 but couldn't afford one.

That many probs with the PSD for the few miles driven Owners' perceived quality way down - the reason this Ford guy is driving a Dodge. I like how Dodge has the most miles driven by far compared to the Chevy HD...

Maybe Ford will bring back the 7.3L or similar and push the Torque wars into the 1000 ft lb range We already know our CTD will meet the challenge

How do you explain the Sierra HD vs the Silverado HD, which are the same vehicle?

And yes, WOW to the Fords.

I was fixin to ask that exact question.

I think it's the GM customer versus the Chevrolet customer.

One is more likely to report problems than the other?

Read Carefully

These tests are WITHIN the same "comparable Vehicle!"
Could that mean Dodge Diesel VS. Dodge Ram Gasser....GMC Sierra Duramax vs Sierra gasser, etc?

That's the way I read it, anyway. It's not real clear, is it?

Either way...it still makes our CTD's look good!

Umm...maybe I'm just slow....But can someone EXPLAIN just WHAT that graph REALLY means?

Hey I LOVE my Dodge & think its the best out there...But that graph seems to be nothing more than 'junk science' to me...

WHAT is the comparison? it says 'vs Gasoline engines in comparable vehicles'..

Pretty vague....What was the comparison exactly? Was everything compared to the same gas engine? Was there different engines for each vehicle & how did they determine what was 'comparable'?? Was the Ford & Dodge compared to the same or simlar 'comparable' vehicle?

Is it a DIRECT comparison - IE for the Dodge is it compared to the Hemi? Is the Ford compared to an equivalent Ford Gas truck Engine (do they make a HD Gas engine? I don't know much about Ford..) That chart basically says the Ford has 500% more problems than the Dodge...Ya Ford has problems (and I personally HATE them) but I really have a problem beliving that you are 500% more likely to have problems with the Ford VS the Dodge...

What's the point you ask? Well...I guess just this - That chart could mean ANYTHING...there's not enough TRUE DATA there to draw any real conclusions - and their web site gave no further clues.... Its misleading to say the least!

ZS
(but I do like the IDEA that a ford is 500% more likely to die vs the Dodge!! )

What they are comparing are the Diesel and gas versions of each type of truck. Cummins vs Hemi/4.7L gasoline motors in the Dodge etc.
