The tread design looks so much like the Toyo M/T, but the Cooper is load "D" rated(3000 lbs) and the Toyo is "E". The Cooper is also only about $230. My concern is that they won't be stout enough, but I see plenty of guys here running BFG 315's which are also "D" rated.

Your opinions please.....

you should have no problems with the d rated tires. when you go with an oversized d rated tire they will hold as much weight as the stock e rated tires, in most cases. The cooper STT's will wear out fast, i would not suggest that aggressive of a mud tire unless you really need it.

Supposedly they're far more quiet than what they look like. It's a relatively new tire, so it's hard to find people running them. So any quality "D" tire in a 35 should be okay? Was also considering the milder Toyo Open Country A/T but the tread depth isn't too deep.

The STT's have a bit softer rubber compound to keep from tearing up the tread when in rocks and gravel. Therefore, your tire life will be less. They do make a bit of road noise, but not bad.
I've got the ST. Harder rubber compound. A bit of road noise around 40-45 mph but at highway speed, no more than the avarage AT type tire. With around 7,500 miles on them, I don't see any abnormal tread wear and my guess is that they will go 50,000 miles or so. As long as they are rotated on a regular basis.
You might want to look at the ST. I got mine for $154 ea (265-75-16E), installed.

I ran these STT's on my Dodge Ram 1500 in a 33" size when they first came out. They did AWESOME off road in the mud, dirt, etc. I assume they would have been great in the snow too but didn't get to find out because I sold the truck. These tires are LOUDER than many MTs on the market however, so be prepared for road noise. I didn't have any problems with them in the rain, but if I was a person who towed a trailer a lot I wouldn't go with them...I'd stick with an AT instead just to be safe. I got a set of 4 put on my truck for a little over $800.

A buddy of mine has put 50k on his last three sets of them on a PSD Superduty, rotating regularly.

Love the tires. Good wet weather traction. Don't know about snow/ice, yet. Mine cost right at $650 with tax and all. Everyone I know that has run them has gotten excellent service.
I think there are two different versions of the ST. One is a cut and chip resistant version. Great if you are on unimproved roads a lot.

I have had a set of 285's on since the summer. So far holding up really well. Regular rotations are a must and they are louder than an AT. Surprisingly they have been holding up real well to towing.

I like them so far.

Apparently not. According to their web site, the Discoverer STT is available in sizes up to LT305/70R16 and the Discoverer Radial STT is available in sizes up to LT265/75R16 with limited availability of the LT285/75R16 due to them being discontinued.

As you can see by my sig, I have the STT's and love them. They are an older style the the picture though, I hate to hear about them discontinueing the LT285/75R16. Not sure what I will do for my next set of tires. Cooper has been making a lot of changes to their tire line. I've been running the AT's on my SUV's and was told they were discontinueing them as well. I have had very good service with Cooper tires over the last 12 years. I usually find them quite a bit cheaper than the competition as well. They are great in the snow. As they age they generate more howl. I like the howl of the tires, it goes good with the rattle of the engine.

Called the local tire shop for a price in the ST's 35" and they had them listed at $173ea mounted, seems high for Coopers or is this about right.

I was recently told by a tire dealer that these coopers have a new design that raised the center rib on an angle, or something like that, and that it made them QUIET ?
He also said that Cooper is the only American owned tire manufacturer. That said, if true, would be enough to get me to try a set next time around

They are no way quiet. The first 1000 miles maybe. The nice open tread design puts a stick in that bicycle wheel.

However, between the motor noise and the turbo howling, you don't notice it.

When idling around in loose or soft conditions its cool to feel the tires grab and push instead of spin.

The trade off between more traction and road noise is worth it to me.

Keep in mind though that the more aggressive the tread the shorter the tire life. It's all a trade off.
