anyways..3500$ and 6500$?! thats no labour included in there right? those things dont install themselves....sigh k now add all the goodies to allow u to bolt things up right...transfercase...proper length driveshafts...u want how much power? ur gonna need another 4000$ for a tranny for that power with either motor

lots of money for mods...money for a turbo or twin turbo setup....

HAVE FUN THOUGH AND GOOD LUCK since ur starting from scratch why not put an 8.3 cummins in there and get back to us all
I am planning on running the C6/NP205/Dana 60 (front & rear) that are in the truck. I found a place that makes the conversion kit for the C6, the conversion flexplate, and the motor mounts. I don't expect the swap to be easy but I have done some pretty exotic swaps in the past.

I have not heard of the 8.3. One problem I will have is the engine bay on the 78 is pretty tight. Here is a picture of a guy who did the conversion already (not my truck).

I am going to convert my 1975 crew (someday) from the 440-727 to a 12 Valve CTD and the 47RH. See my gallery for the truck. My little boy loves that old girl!!

Oh, BTW the Dana 60 will NOT last behind a CTD even a stock one!! Better start looking for a 70 or better yet an 80.

I don't know if I agree however I will take your warning and consider it. I don't know what you could do to destroy the rearend with a pickup. It isn't like I actually haul anything in the truck, I just drive it around doing burnouts and having fun. It is a toy, not a work truck. Even if it were a work truck you would have to put a lot of weight on/behind the truck and put some serious torque to the wheels to destroy a Dana 60.

I am looking for a rearend from a newer Ford truck with the rear disk brakes. I am not sure what they compare to (Dana equivelant) but I have heard they are very strong and the spring perch/total width is the same as my old truck.

Another crew cab - cool! Very nice looking truck.

I would love to find a crew cab for my truck but the super cab will have to do until I find one. One project at a time...

the dana 60s are tough but if you pull day in and day out with a heavy load it will give out sooner than a 70 but if most of your driving is M T and just toolin a round it will run a very long time

I bet you get looks wherever you go. Everyone walking up and asking you about it. Isn't that cool.

You motivated me - thank you.
Thanks. I do get compliments. I bought the truck complete. The only thing that bothered me was the miserable gas mileage with the 440 big block: 6 mpg. Converting to Cummins power was the obvious choice.
