Colorado Diesel Emissions Testing

What is involved in the Colorado Diesel emissions testing? I think a lot of the emission testing is and only goes after the poor people who can't afford new cars or to maintain them The rich guy who trades his new car in every 2-3 years does not have to deal with it. Guys like me, who drive a 13 year old car get the shaft but I am getting off topic here...

So, for a Dodge diesel truck, what type of testing do they do???

It's a dyno test with a exhaust catcher, pretty exciting really, trucks not tied down or anything, my truck anyways moves around quite a bit you may not want to watch It's a opacity test, my truck has scored 4-5% test max is 30% they also look at the exhaust system (hope your kitty isn't lost)

I know gassers get a pass for a couple of years, diesel should too but I'm not sure.

It is just an opacity test. As mentioned before it is up to 30%. My truck has never had any problem passing it is an 01 with 200k on it and has the mods in my sig. Diesels have to get it done every year here. I have never had them look under my truck for anything but then again my truck didnt come with a cat.

They also "catch" people with the roadside emmission testing stations. Most of the time it is the entrance to the freeway where you are excellerating hard and polluting the most. On both my truck and my wife's car, I always coast through. I have never had any of my vehicles tested. I had a Toyota Tacoma with 200k never tested.

Maybe it's county to county but I thought Colorado just got rid of emission testing in January, in fact I know it's not necessary in El Paso county now. But for the last few years I was on the rollers at a tune of $50 each time with inclusive readings that a mathematician couldn't compute to HP or real Torque.

all emission testing is way out of date

all newer vehicles burn so much cleaner than the carbed engines and the earlier fuel injected vehicles. The whole emissions thing has just turned into a big money raising gimmick. Just a stupid tax disguised as some feel good test

You guys got lucky down in the springs and in fact unless you live in or around the Denver area you don't have to test
From the Colorado Dept of Revenue (note diesel testing is NOT done by Envirotest)

Colorado Motor Vehicle Emissions Program

Enhanced program area consists of the full counties of Boulder, Broomfield, Denver, Douglas and Jefferson as well as parts of the counties of Adams and Arapahoe.

Effective January 1, 2007, the basic gasoline emissions program area that consists of the counties of Larimer, Weld and El Paso will no longer require emission testing. Diesel vehicles must still be inspected. There have been no changes to the diesel inspection program in these counties.

The diesel emissions program area consists of the full counties of Boulder, Jefferson, Broomfield, Denver, and Douglas, as well as parts of Adams and Arapahoe, Larimer, Weld, and El Paso counties.

Please contact the respective county clerk's office for assistance to determine if you reside in or out of the program area in the partial counties of Adams (303.654.6010), Arapahoe (303.795.4500), El Paso (719.520.6240), Larimer (970.498.7878) or Weld (970.353.3840).

Tests for 1982 and newer vehicles in the seven Denver area counties (enhanced area) are done by Envirotest Inc., doing business as (d.b.a.) Air Care Colorado. Tests for 1981 and older vehicles may go to Air Care Colorado or independent testing facilities within the Enhanced area.

Unfortunately, it took me 30+ years to get my first NEW vehicle that I have ever owned. All the other cars I have owned were used & old. So I do count my blessings and I am thankful for what I have. The point was the emission testing is a scam & hardship on the middle to lower-middle class people. Plain & simple.

It's like stupid John Travolta telling people to walk and buy hybrids while he has numerous jets that he fly's around the world with. Hypocrisy by the Hollywood & rich...

So, any area within a 50 mile radius of central Denver is REQUIRED to participate in the emission testing??

Is Evergreen or Conifer required to participate??
