Question Chrysler Extended Warranties

I just talked to the dealership about an extended warranty. I can get a 2/24 from Chrysler for $1360 (plus some sur charges for 4WD and Diesel that the warrany guy said he would go over when I came in). It's their comprehensive plan that covers pretty much all major components (engine, trans, transfer case, pumps, A/C, etc....)
I am considering it and wanted to know what experiences folks here have had with them? Is $1360++ a good price? Can I expect to get a better price?

I work at the dealer and I extend my warranty as long as I can with Chrysler Service Contracts. They are by far the best contract in the "non hassle" department. As long as the repair is under 6000.00 the dealer can authorize the repair. No screwing around with teardown and waiting for some "inspector" to come out and take pictures of the parts so they can in turn send them in to whoever and wait two days before you hear whether something is covered. True, you may spend the money and never use it, but it only takes one major breakdown and you've basically gotten your money back. It's also nice because it gets you a rental car if the truck is down waiting for parts. Be sure to shop around as this price in negotiable. DCX employees get a good discount on them.

ha ha! i have experience here, well sorta

My brand new 2004.5 cummins 5.9 truck (the one in my sig) got the extended warranty, so im insured for probably longer than something on my truck will last.

Anyways, i had the vibration problem and it took them 3 days to fix it, so i had a

dodge ram 1500, hemi that i got to rent for free.. was good i guess, i burned more rubber in that **** truck than i had on any other..

but the 14 mpg i kept getting was pretty horrible....

also this may be just by me but my local dodge dealer (Joliet Dodge) of illinois, is really good.
3 weeks after having the truck, i got 2 dents put into the doors some how... probably some *******, anyways i asked them if they would fix it, and they did.. really good service. No fee or anything.

It's going to be a toss.... I'm sure with all the "surcharges" for 4wd and ctd, I'll be paying $1500 or more for it. $50 deductible per repair visit.
Yes, if my VP44, lift pump, transmission or any number of other big buck components craps out, it will have paid for itself, one repair.

How many miles are on your truck now? The drive train may already have a 7/70 warranty on it it and the engine (including pumps) should have a 5/100,000 mile warrranty on it.

It has 73k on it now. According to CARFAX, it had a 3/36 drivetrain, basic and emmissions. A 60/100 corrosion. Vehicles sold or leased after 11/1/01 thru 7/9/02 get a 7/100 powertrain.

Extended warranty.

I got the 7 year extended warranty on my 1999 when I bought it. This year in the early spring my transmission went south on the fifth gear. They got a new one for me and installed it and it cost me $50.00. Got my $1,400.00 back plus a new track bar too. Good insurance when you need it.

I used to tow cars for a living, I know what can happen so I always opt for extended warranties. Look at it this way, yes you may never use it and it be a waste of money. But all you need is for something serious to happen and it more than pays for itself. If you can afford it go with it. It may save you $$$ in the futeure

I guess they gouge you when you are out of warranty. I got the extended warranty (bumper to bumper) for about $1200. All the way to 100,000 miles.

I think the 1300+ for 2/24 is a bit steep. I could be wrong. On the other hand, I have purchased several warranties over the years. The first one was the first car I bought, and I used it within the first week. The others, I haven't even touched.

The bad news, of course, was that I was a warranty gold customer. Ouch. I will only recommend manufacturer based extended warranties now.
