Goodyear Gatorback is an excellent replacement belt.

It's not a good belt if it doesn't chirp at shutdown, though. I like that noise?

Why don't the Gatorbacks chirp? Are they super tight or frictionalized or what?

The 'smooth' side is textured, like a 'Gator's-Back'.

Dayco makes one called the Poly-Cog that is similar to the Gatorback and also cures the chirp. You can get them Advance Auto parts for $33 and some change.

That's because you have a stick shift. The clutch assembly is heavier than the flexplate and TC, so the engine doesn't stop so suddenly.

Also, when you are putting in a new belt, be sure to rough up the pulleys as well. What happens as your belt wears so does the surface of the pulleys a bit. The surface gets smooth. A smooth surface has less friction than does a rough surface. So when you change the belt, take some emory cloth or fine grit sandpaper and run that over the pulley surfaces and give them a better surface. Its a good technique I have been using a while and it works good.

Just consider that your new belt has put youur truck in "stealth mode." See, it's now so quiet at shutdown that no one can tell you're turing it off, hence it's now easier to sneak up on them...

I think I must need more sleep?!

Angry HERE I GO .....#@$%^&

I'm glad someone said something, I was going to just hold my head down in shame, but since this is up and running here I go.... I had just done a ton of work to my truck,...just "PREVENTITIVE" maintanence....... And I ordered EVERYTHING from the DODGE dealer...( I know the parts guy, and he treats me right on the price side ) anyway, I DONT MIND THE CHIRP.....AFTER SHUT DOWN.......but I figured I would change the belt, it had a couple of cracks, and I refuse to sit on the side of the interstate, if at all possible.......So I grab a new belt and put it on, fire up the truck....looks like it is running nice and straight, it's in the correct groves.....go put the truck outside, shut the shop down wash up, and step outside.....It is squeeling like a bugger.....OK......maybe it's just new, or NOT got the stupid white chalky coating off of it.......Down the Interstate I go, tunes blasting, 26 psi of boost, 105 MPH......I'll get it broke in......get close to home shut sterio off.....STILL CHIRPPING.....it actually sounds like the tensioner is going south.....Get back to the shop in the A.M. pull off the belt, and check the tensioner, runs free, NO NOISE, NO FELL of a bearing going BAD, I even GOT MY "STETHASCOPE" out and had a listen......NOT THE TENSINOR !!! Scuffed up MOST of the pully area's I could get to, reinstall the NEW Dealer belt, start it up ......."SQUEEL's"....... like the guy "MR BEATTY" .....in the movie "DELIVERENCE"..... Remove NEW belt....Reinstall OLD belt......NOT a SQUEEK.....perfect..........Launch NEW belt across shop as hard as possible, followed by some CHOICE words for....we'll anything in my life at this moment.......Send DAD to dealer with NEW belt, to exchange, with another NEW belt.....THAT IS NOT FROM THAT SAME "RUN" or SEQUENCE of belt's, ....DAD explained this to parts man, NO PROBLEM, here is your NEW belt....DAD and parts man check it....totally different run of belt......bring back to me.....I have cooled off, but lot's of customer's and call's comming in, so DAD install's New, "NEW" belt for me.......fire engine up and ......."CAPTAIN SQUEEL" is back......( DAD has WAY more patient's then me ) proceeds to spend about 2 hours checking for "RUN OUT or TRUENESS" pulls off tensioner, and replaces with one, off of our DUALLY, still squeels, remove and replace with ORIGINAL belt.....NOW WE are BOTH ready to choke someone with this belt or at least see if I can make "THEM SQUEEL" with it.......I had enough by this time.....finish day off and head home.....got calm, by my EXIT and figured I would STOP at "PARTS SOURCE" and grab a Gatorback or anything that would be close to that......Give the young man behind the counter my info, and he proceeds to tell me...SORRY SIR WE ARE OUT OF STOCK RIGHT NOW !!! CAN I ORDER IT FOR YOU ???? By now I am SO "I-RATE" I can only make my way to the front door as fast as possible, I need to get out of here before I get hauled away by the law.......( Now I know that some of you will NOT understand this, but everyone has a breaking point, and at that perticular time, it really does'nt matter what the consiquence's are, last time I was this wound up I threw 5 gallon of "VP" C-16 race gas on a 92' Dodge Daytona and through a match at it......after I got up off the ground and emptied my pants out from the explosion" and proceeded to get reemed out by my father my anger was gone......along with my car.....I was 18 ) At this point all I wanted to do was "CUT" the OLD belt off of it, and let this thing get as HOT as it could, seize up, blow up, burn up, crash, break, smash....ANYTHING just NOT RUN........I got in and drove home.....yelled at girlfriend, and went to bed......brought truck back to work, put it in my shop, and that's where it still sit's.........Yeah I will put another belt on, as soon as I can get my perscription of "CALM ME DOWN" Pills filled.....Thanks for listening !!!!.... Canucktrucks.....
