Changing differential fluid (Gear Oil 90)& Fuel filter
So, how many people DO change the GO-90 oil in their rear differentials? I spent years in US Army helicopters...all we ever did was take oil samples for gear wear and NEVER drained the gear cases unless we had evidence of metal on the magnetic case plugs.
I have a '97 D250, Cummins and I'm looking for folks that have had fuel starvation due to clogged fuel filters...I have 117K on my truck...is this an easy item that I can change myself or does it require special tools?
Thanks, be safe...keep that seat belt TIGHT!

If you have limited slip, the clutches will slowly contaminate the fluid. Dodge sya 15k with this, but I think 30k is OK with Syn. I would run the 90-140 if you tow heavy loads.
Even without towing, it is s good idea to change it at some interval.

The 03 and up AAM limited slip is one of the clutchless designs.
On my 03 I changed at 15k and 30k and it looked good. I figured 15k changes with GL5 synthetic was a bit excessive, and I'd go longer once the power train warranty was over, but then I sold the 03 to get a dually.
I got this 06 used and previous owner hadn't changed fluids, so I did it at about 37k. The fluid didn't look horrible, but was definately dirty, and there was a film inside that I wiped out.
It made me rethink the idea that 15k was excessive...

Ha Jeff did not know you got a new pickup cool beans only means we got too drive out of the city of the dalles to get normal priced diesel. I just did my rear diff at 110k for the first time that I have done it since I got the pickup cause the rear pinion seal was leaking.

Hey Dodgecowboy, how's it going?
Yeah, I don't know what it is about these AAM's... Although they look super-stout, I don't think the Dana's had such a frequent oil change requirement, or required synthetic...
I've also noticed we seem to be in a vortex, fuel price wise... Go east or west and the price goes down...

Ya I was just up too Yakima yesterday and it was about .25 cents cheaper. Ya I think dana axles did not have such a interval as the aams do. Hows the new truck running? I just got my clutch done month ago not too hijack this thread

It runs pretty nice. I think the 600 makes less mechanical noise than my HO, and a bit more turbo whistle.
I'm not sure I like either the G56 or the dual mass flywheel. The G's 6th is lower than it was on the NV, and also it seems to make a bit more gear noise (others I've driven with the G were the same).
I went ahead and did the transmission and the transfer case while I was under there doing the axles. Looking at the owner's manual, it looks like they extended the change interval on the transfer case from what my 03 said, even though it's the same transfer case...
Anyway, although I had to look long and hard to find a laramie stick, it got me into a dually. I was a bit afraid of the 6.7 mpg and check engine reports. Also on the plus side, no truck payment, lifetime sirius, and it already had a B&W and a Jake...
