Cat in a Dodge?

Just wondering if anyone has ever heard of sticking a 3406B Cat or a big rig Cummins (N14 or the old 855 or maybe L10) in a dodge? Ive heard it can be done and was wondering what it would take. Not that i want to get rid of the 5.9 by any means just wondering if any one has any info on the swap.

You might be able to get away with a C-7 cat accert engine with an allison tranny behind it in a dodge

The OEM front end would never handle the weight first off. So, the first thing to do would be to rework the entire front end to carry the weight. The cost would be just about as much as those engines. Not worth it IMHO.

Then if that doesn't deter anyone, then there's the driveline. Nothing OEM would handle the torque, so transmission, mounts, diffs, drive shafts, transfer case, etc., would all have to be replaced.

Now lets get to the electronics. New ECM required and programmed to run with everything else elecronic.

There's more that I likely missed.

Cheaper to go buy an OTR tractor and put a box on it.

theoretically...our front axles are 4500lbs ratings or a bit more...so technically it could handle even the big 3000lb 14-16 liter motors...but driving with it and steering...keeping the rear on the ground...braking....things like that would be unrealistic...oh yeah and it wouldnt fit...ud have the redo the firewall, the dash, the hood, the whole front end....then there's a massive cooler u need...it all adds up...the transmission itself would be over 1000lbs....but i encourage anyone to try cause i want to see it...the only time i have seen somehting like this being put into actual action is the n14 cummins tryke that was built on monster garage...the size of that motor really put things into perspective...

I saw a few pics a long time ago of an 8.3L Cummins in an '99+ F-250, it would be better to see it done in a Dodge though

There is supposedly a truck running around here (Stephenville) with a (I think) 4 banger CAT.

Let us not forget that the 3406E puts out what, 2200 ft-lbs of torque. What would the frame be thinking about that? Put a load on it and next thing you know you'll be driving a weird looking pretzel!!

There are folks out there running about 2000lbs of torque right now with their bombed 5.9s...whatever they are doing, the person who puts a 3406E in their truck could do...right?

the 3406 series / C-15s ................ it'd be dumb IMO just trying to get one to physically fit in the engine bay, way too tall and long, never mind the gross weight. But whatever float your boat.

You could easily get an 8.3 Cummins by buying an old school bus when they go up for auction. I know the district I work for sells the buses off every so often.

3406B.. Put a mechanical engine in place of the electronic cummins? What a wiring chore, but I guess anything is possible.
