It is illegal to delete, alter, or otherwise change the factory installed smog control equipment and the site does not support those evolutions.

Deaner.... WHich 3406? A, B, C, E????? A, B,and C are mechanical, E is electronic. If its a mechanical engine, its a fairly easy process, there are lots of independent truck shops that will do it for a fee. If its an E model, you will probably have to go thru an authorized Cat repair shop, and pay a re-rate fee. Whats it set at now? SHould be nomeclature on the valve cover, or you can get the spec number off of the injection pump and have somebody look it up for ya. Vehicular engines are usually set up pretty conservative to protect the rest of the drivetrain, thus protecting the OEM during the warranty period.

3000 rpm's?
You're gonna need more than help...
It's never a good idea to mess with an injection pump if you don't know what you're doing.
3000 rpm's on a Cat.... I hope you know what you're doing...

hey its running great purs like a kitten it never really cruises at that speed but that was the only way to get it to pick up fast enough.if i can get more fuel to it then i will urn the rpms down.its a tough engine it was driven hard for three months with the turbo not even working it would shoot a 12" flame out the stack when i tore it down there was nothing wrong with the engine pistons looked great and it held great compression but it just worried me that it got that hot so i went ahead and checked it over and by the way i no where a few b models are that will turn about 4000 rpms and they hold together fine i no what i am doing on the b models but this pump is like nothing i have ever seen

Thumbs up

Well it is quite simple to turn a cat up, on the back end of the pump you will see a plate that has 2 7/16 or 1/2 bolts you want be able to see the screws but behind that plate is 2 locking screws I purchased the tool from cat to do it because it take a 7/16 deep socket and a small allen wrench when you break the bolt loose you will need to be able to hold it so it want fall out.
Anyway back it out about 2 rounds and tighten do the exact same on the one beside it because if they are not exact you take a big chance on messing up the plungers in the rack of the pump.

Now with that said, if it is smoke you want then on the top back side of the pump there is a small tube comming from the air off the turbo.unscrew the steel line and take the two bolts out then you will see a shaft like deal sticking out, take a flat screw drive and a 7/16 boxend wrench and and break the nut loose and turn with the screw driver in about a 1/2 round then crank up the truck with it apart and push in on the shaft and crank down on the fuel a couple of times and watch the smoke!

If you want the part # for the tool to do it yourself PM me and i will hook you up.

It sounds complicated but it is really simple.
