Cat 3126 HP mods?????
I got this friend, who I also talked into buying a new Dodge CTD a year ago, hey, I shouldn't be alone making mortage payments on a new truck.
Anyway his family owns a 1999 Freightliner FL70 with a Cat 3126 210 HP. he says it is pretty sickly compared to his 05 Dodge when it comes to towing. I say there has to be a way to hop it up. I barely know anything about my own Cummins engines, but i bet him that someone here knows these engines and can help find some hidden HP. I know the exhaust should be done , but this one needs to remain quiet. I assume the air intake needs help also, but he said you can't even see the pump. I'm betting you don't need to because there is probably a plug-in-play box that someone makes??/ help him out if you have any info. . thanx ,crossy

TS Performance makes an MP8 for the 3126E's...I have one on the same engine in an FL80. It makes a difference, but I don't think it's 85hp like they say. Maybe 45hp. I also just opened up the exhaust to a 5" with a resonator.
There isn't really a "pump" on the 3126E's...they use HEUI injection. They pump high pressure oil to the injectors to pressurize the fuel to injection levels. Not the best system, but it works!
How much weight is he towing? We're running anywhere between 40-60K lbs with our, and it handles it OK, but you won't get any speeding tickets. The 9spd tranny really helps, but a 13 would be better

I also have a friend that drives a 330 Pete with a 3126E @ 330hp...he said it's not much better. I think these little CAT's just lack the power that the big ones have. They get the job done, but it just doesn't feel like it
Our new FL M2 with the 230 Mercedes feels A LOT more powerful. It has a lot more bottom end than the CAT. The truck is also smaller, but it just feels A LOT better!

My local dealer said MAYBE 230hp, and he wasn't sure of that! Over that and you need to change injectors, pistons, turbo, and balancer is what I was told!
I was also told it would cost $800 just for the software change

Yep, factory rerate and maybe some iron changes. I don't work on the OTR's, but I've seen the industrial make some respectable #s. But, in the end, its still a 3100, not my favorite of the Cats. If there were just a way to stuff a C-32 under the hood...

wish I knew what a whitlock was,,,,,,for the right amount of money Id move but Im pretty happy up here...I try and keep the meaning in Industrial engine instead of turning it into Drilling industrial engine
I do alot of newer stuff for the schlumberjacks and ALOT of new stuff for brand new drilling rigs. Its fun and clean--plus the 3600 that we have up this way that are indoors and are nice to work on in the winter......
