Case Equipment, Do they still use Cummins 4bt/6bt?few questions
i havent bought any pieces of equipment since the late 80's/early 90's from case ( 1986 855D Crawler Loader) (6 cylinder cummins (no turbo)
and in 1992 or so i bought a Case Backhoe, it has a 4 cylinder cummins in it.
both machines are very low hours compared to how old they are. well taken care of.
only problems ive ever had with any of the equipment was my backhoe, the crankshaft had some kind of crack from the factory, and back in 1996 or so the crank split in half no problems since then.
and the radiator rotted out on my 855D not a year ago :/ never knew radiators could be 600 dollars (and much more )
5200 hours on the 855D and 2,000 hours on the backhoe.
Anyways, my main questions are these.
Does the New Case equipment still use the good ole cummins?
and does it use a completely different fuel injection system than our trucks?
Just been interested recently in buying some fresh equipment, new backhoe and maybe a new crawler loader. and been really happy about the performance of my older equipment
Some of the new amenities are great now Air conditioning? woohoo
any info let me know guys appreciate it.
thanks!

Case and Cummins engine was a joint venture and case claims it as their engine in their equipment. My 1845 c is a cummins but it does not have cummins on it the engine anywhere. I worked on a komatsu dozer that had a 6bt in it I don't know if it was a copy or an actual cummins but it was exactly like the one in my truck. Matt

Fiat owns CNH inc which owns Case and New Holland.
Fiat also owns Iveco. The new big combines and larger 4wd tractors have Iveco in them. Was told that Cummins could not produce enough power to size ratio after the last tier of emissions. You should see the radiators on those things.

I know our '98 8920 and 8940 (nice having a matched set) have "Case" 8.3L 6CTA Cummins engines, and so does our 2360 combine. Last I checked Case says they have a Cummins ISX 15L engine in the big STX 4 wheel drives, but other than that they claim to have only Case engines.

The 2360 combine mentioned is the small one, and yes they still do have Cummins power. The newest, larger (8010?) combines have the Iveco. The largest 4wd and the largest Quad track and even the largest Magnums have the Iveco as shown at the winter show circut. They are easy to spot with the wider hoods on the tractors to acomadate the increased need for cooling, due to the retarded timing for tier six (I think) emissions.
If you want to get some info on this check with the DSM. Your dealer may or may not have made it to the dealer meetings in Pheonix last January.

We havent had any problems with the 8.3. We have 4 of them, one with 330,000 miles in our grain truck, and they all still run great. They have been as good or better to us than the Cummins engines in the trucks.
