Calling all Diesel Mechanics
#16
Inj Jack,
7 yr auto mech, 15 yr tool maker, 17 yr mech eng. I've put things in space, bottom of the ocean, fired projects out of 5 naval guns, made auto stuff, truck stuff, beat cotton to yarn and made a pile of batteries just to name a few things. Yes I can make chips, lay down a roof and pour concrete too.
diesel kid...here is a day on the job. 7 am to 9am design a new fixture for an assembly machine, (on top of the line cad system) 9am to 10 am waste time in a meeting, 10 am to noon finish yesteday's project (2 weeks ahead of time), noon to 3pm start on new project, 3 pm to 3:30pm meet with eng mgr who changes the rules, scrap out the last 3 hours of work, (press delete do not save) 3:30 to 5: pm work on new project and discuss yesterdays project with shop guys.. 5 pm go home leave job at plant.
Notice no lunch, no breaks, no BS time. I have my coffee at my desk and eat on the fly. Great benefits, paid on time, nice people to work with. Could be gone at any time.
You have to eat live and sleep mech eng or you will not like it. It changes all the time and you have to constantly keep up dated. If you think you would like to sit behind a drafting board..good luck they went out 15 yr ago. I haven't made a hand drawn drawing since I became and engineer. I haven't even had a drafting board. I do it all on the computer. Sure is nice to pres delete and send the junk into the ether rather than wheel a bushel of chips out to the dumpster.
