Buying a used cummins

I've decided to buy a cummins pickup in the 99-01 range. I would like to stay under 15,000 and for it to have a standard tranny. I want to tweak it a little bit nothing major, like turning the fuel up and all that jazz to add mpg. I was wondering what you guys suggest and what you like/dislike in your pickups. If you know anything used with my criteria let me know too please.

Sounds nice but to be honest with you, I want a 2500 with a quad cab, sorry I forgot to mention that before.

You might also want to expand your search to a 98 12v. I have had 12v and 24v, 12v is by far my favorite. Way more fun to drive, mods are cheaper...

My 12 valve is more fun - more torque and way faster thru the gears but my 03 is a much nicer driver. Steering, brakes, ride and quiet! If you drove a 3rd gen, I think you would probably want to wait for one of them. Craig
