Big Bad Volvo

Check out Volvo's newest OTR truck - claims to be the most powerful on the road today. Wonder if Volvo will ever get into the samll truck market? They seem to have pretty good diesels.

IMO the're not the best out there, theres far better trucks out there, such as the International 9900ix, Peterbilt 379, and any Freightliner, just my opinion of corse, as these trucks have no resale value at all. It's Just another Import, lol

Now heres a real truck:

Most of those Navistar trucks are assembled in canada. Used to drive for a co. that ordered about 12 at a time. Quality wasn't as great as you'd expect. Pretty bad, when a new truck has only dim headlights, because they "forgot" the wiring harness at the dimmer switch to turn on the brights. Another had constant A/C problems, mine had a problem w/ the air compressor governor. There were others in that order, but that's 3 of the ones I could think of.

I'd go w/ KW, Pete, Mack, or Freightliner. The last 2 now foreign owned, I'd choose the first 2 over the last 2. KW and Peterbilt are the last ones owned by American entities... PACCAR. Funny bit of info... PACCAR is Pacific Car and Rail... they build train cars. I find that funny, since the trucking industry is the rail industry's main competition. Guess they wanted to get a piece of that market, when they bought up Peterbilt and Kenworth.

i saw it when the first introduced it. i'd take an international, kenworth, or western star over a volvo any day. there is no terrain in this half of the country that requires 650hp, with fuel prices the way they are i don't see too many people buying one. they're jumping on a niche market that has been dominated by the big long hood KWs and peterbilts for years, i don't see their loyal owners jumping ship for a volvo. it does look but isn't really practical for anyone wanting to make money.

I wouldnt buy an international for anything, well, maybe if it was from the biggest dealer in the country, I use to work for a dealer, and man did we seem to sell trucks. We would get a work order with one line, Pre Deliver Inspection. By the time the truck left it wasnt uncommong to have a 6 liner. My personal best was 14. Not all small stuff either

Common ones were A/C Lines rubbing. The Turn signal wasnt too far behind that was mentioned earlier. And for international to forget harnesses, They came out with Diamond logic, Basically it is a way for every aftermaket manufact to use the trucks ECM without splicing and everything, The truck comes from the factory with all the buttons built in, all electronic, All the guages in the dash? wires, even the air pressure, Anyway. All the time they would forget harnesses, For safty? yeah they seemed to forget a ABS harness once.

If any of you have bought a 4000 series, check your interior panels, especially that behind the seats. They always seemed to forget those.

One i remember was missing the release cable for the under bunk hatch

and the most damage done? One came in, only had one cap on the u joint for the rear rear axle, which was loose. They dropped off the trucks started it up, we just laid new gravel and had been raining for days. so they put in the locker and snap ***** *****, took out hoses and cables, oh was it a mess. But now im off my box, hope i didnt scare you away from an international truck haha they are the second best selling truck right now Next to freightshaker

i hear you there. we used to have a guy that spent an entire day tightening bolts and whatnot on a brand-new international. occasionally they would forget something. once all the minor details were worked out they've been solid trucks. ever build a 9200? that's what we run. many nearing a million miles.

duke1n, did you go to the cummins truckfest and take those pics?

if you did, then you probably saw me run my truck. I ran a Green Silverado extended cab 4x4 and then a silver ford ranger. i ran a 15.1 and a 15.0. Big red cummins....remember it?

If I had to buy a new truck, it would definitely be a Western Star 4900EX. IMO, the best looking truck on the road. From what I've seen, they also look like the easiest to work on. No exhaust piping (like Pete and KW) or air tanks (International) in the way for transmission removal. The interior looks great; I like the rocker switches instead of toggles. And with the inner door hinges versus the competition's outer, the cab not only looks cleaner but they shut with a nice solid sound, just like a pickup truck door. I just wish I had my CDL and $120,000 laying around.

The Westren Start we have Now Is the Biggest Lemon EVER, Dropped 3 rear-ends, blew a hole the size of my head in the Tranny, drive shaft flew out when doin 120 kmh on the highway, 3 jack shafts to many axels to count, and they said it was Dad's Fault!, Oh and all this was in the span of one year...Very poor service at our local dealer.
