Wonder why the GM rode so well,,well for 1 it was a single wheel and the other 2 were duallys,, no wonder why it rode so "car like" LMAO Get a Chevy and a Dodge out in the real world in mud and snow and see who is stuck first? The chev is always stuck cause there frames hang down so low below the cabs. ANother thing they forgot is reliabilty, what engine will last longer? Cummins will outlast any of that other crap hands down, MAgazines can post all they want, but this test was a joke

"this test was a joke", Outlaw hit the nail on the head.
They weren't even comparing similar trucks.

They tested the trucks for what they will be used for out of the majority of the public. I'm sorry but this doesn't include deep mud and snow of the "real world". And ok, you design a test that will test the reliability of the brand new trucks in a couple days. I think its a crappy "technical" orientated test also, but it gives a decent idea of how they compare.

If they REALLY wanted an equal test, why not compare the Dodge & Ford single rear wheel 3500s to the GM?

ok Im not trying to start anything, but if the dodge won, would the article still be a joke? It can go both ways. There will NEVER be a fair test that will satisfy everyone...there will always be some little thing that people will cry foul over.

That being said, I think all magazine tests are a joke, everyone gets so hung up on them and thinks they are the end all, and get offended if the magazine doesnt chose their truck as first place. I didnt even read the PM article because I could care less that the GM won, honestly. Everyone bought their brand truck because THEY wanted that brand truck and they felt that X brand was the best in their own eyes, and no stupid magazine's oppinions can take that away from them!

Had the dodge won I would have said "great, who cares what they think, in my own oppinion I love my GM so what difference does it make?". It would be like me getting mad at all you guys for thinking dodge trucks are the best...I mean come on that would be rediculous if I really felt that way...

Also on the magazine article, remember they looked at the truck as a WHOLE. They didnt pull the engines out and line them up side by side. Everyone is looking at the test as a "duramax vs psd vs ctd" contest, NOT a "dodge vs, chevy vs ford" test....theres a difference.

Nobody is dissing the ctd, I will ALWAYS maintain in my own oppinion it is by far the superior engine of the three and will never feel otherwise. The frame, ride, brakes, steering, interior, tranny, etc are JUST as much a factor in determining the "best" (note I put that in quotations) truck as the engine. You CANT have it all in one truck...there is no perfect truck. All of the big three trucks are each superior in their own way, and each have weaknesses that the other brand trucks excell in. Example A, the 48/47 re/rh are not towing transmissions...they are not well suited to HD truck duty (not saying they arent strong enough, Im only saying the ratios and operating characteristics are outdated and less than ideal).............but then the cummins is an amazing engine. Then take the GM, the allison is a great tranny to tow with and will last a million miles if you keep the power stock...BUT the dmax as an engine IMO is decent, not great like the CTD. Example B, the GM IFS has some quite poorly designed parts and is nothing to brag about except for the fact that it rides nice...while the dodge has a solid front axle that you can beat the **** out of and not have to worry. You cant have it all!!!

Basically all Popular mEchanics said was THEY felt in THEIR OWN oppinions the GM was the "most well rounded" and balanced truck...they felt it wasnt unbalanced in performance/quality like the other trucks (ie, being stellar in one area while poor in another area).

As for the ride and interior, I still dont understand why people say "I want my truck to ride like a ton of bricks and have white knuckle wobbling over 70mph, because then I know its a real truck". Come on, its 2007...creature comforts in cars are more advanced than ever, so why shouldnt those be extended to trucks??? Do we really feel that insecure about our masculinity and trucks?? Are we trying to compensate for something by having a truck that drives like crap "because it makes it more bada** and tougher". If you can have a truck thats tough while riding nicely and has seats more comfortable than a park bench, whats not to like about that??????? I think some people are just so stubborn and cant grasp the fact that technology has moved on and they simply dont understand it...so instead of taking the time to learn about it and see the positve qualities new tech has to offer, they just brush it off and dismiss it as "stupid" only because they "know it all" with old technology, and dont like feeling like the world is moving on without them. Like electronic injection on diesels. If Rudoplh Diesel had had a bosch common rail system on his shelf when designing the diesel engine, do you honestly think he would have messed around with mechanical pumps??? Electronics work and the sky is the limit with capabilities for tuning and driveability. 12v cummins's are easy to work on and easy to make power, but what happends when you want a streetable 1000hp truck that still starts in -20* weather??? Not going to happen, I dont care how you slice it. Yes I know you can put a "valet" switch on the low boost fueling line on a P pump blah blah blah. In comes this scary new "sissy" electronics "garbage" and BINGO suddenly you can have this 1000hp daily driven street truck!! Whats not to like?????????? I drive and tow with my truck a fair amount; it has just about 77,000 miles on it and its a 2005. Driving up to school with a trailer its about a 6 hour drive. Am I glad that my truck drives like a "girly" "sissy" truck? You bet I am, and Im not afraid to admit it!!!

And finally........the GM is a brand new truck!! They are comparing the new GM to the dodge which has been the same basic design since 2003. When dodge comes out with their next gen in 2009 or whatever, I would sure hope (and assume) the dodge would come out on top in all of the magazine "tests" and reviews.............and then the articles will stop being 'unfair' and 'biased, right?

Dont hate me...this is just my own stupid oppinon.

Ben

Not true, I've been running 2 5/8 hitch ball for years. It's the standard ball size on any Haulmark brand enclosed trailer and all goosneck trailers I believe.

Also, the GM is the only one of the three with Independent front suspension... that makes a huge difference in ride... IMO, there is no reason to ever make an HD truck with IFS... it is one of the weakest links the GM trucks have....

That (gooseneck) would be a 2 5/16" ball....as are heavier trailers.
I've never seen a 2 5/8 hitch
