hey i know this has probly alreddy been ask but im askin agin if so wich of 2nd gen. is a better motor 24 val. or 12 val. an why ? how much horse each one got stock? an do they come out with same turbo as each other? an will the trans an tansfer case inter change like in the 4x4's .. much info as possible will help me deside wich one i wont thanks rollin.

 

i found that the turbos are the same bettween 2 gen. 12 an 24 right ? an that the stock rating on manual trans 12val. 96 to 98 is 215hp an 420lbs torgue ? an the 24val. is 235 stock an 440lbs torque ? an ive lern that the 53 block ant most faverited. so does what years that the 24 come with a better block. just lookin an askin useful advice when it's time to buy me one thanks rollin
p.s can you put 24 valves on a origenal 12val block ?

 

12 valve because it doesn't have a VP44.

 

it depends what you plan on doing with the truck and how far you plan on bombing it. the later blocks in the 24valve were better as long as it doesn't have the 53 you should be fine

^^^^^^^^x2, a 12v is so much simpler, less electronics, less to go wrong

 

its the luck of the draw on the 53 block.i prefur the 12 valve because its all mechanical.

To get 250-275 hp out of a 12v for cheap? How about free? Grind the stock plate to a 100 plate, push it full forward, and you're there. You're gonna need some gauges to monitor it all. For that power level, exhaust and intake isn't required at all.

You can put a 24v head on a 12v, but you're gonna end up changing many things, including pistons. You can also put a p-pump on the 24v. Gonna have to change many things, but you don't actually have to change any internal parts.

Stock ratings go something like this.
94-95 auto: 160hp
94-95 man: 175hp
96-98 auto: 180hp
96-98 man: 215hp
98.5-00 auto: 215hp
98.5-02 5spd: 235hp
99-00 6spd: 235hp
01-02 auto: 235hp (might have been 00 for the power increase)
01-02 6spd: 245hp

Torque is all in the 400-440 range for everything except the 01-02 6spd (high output) which is 505 lb.ft.

94 and early 95s had the WH1C turbo, late 95 to 02 had HX35. 235hp autos had HY35 turbo. Hydroboost brakes came in 97, new dash came in 98. 6 spd came in 99, new front brakes and bearing setup in 00, rear disck brakes in 01.5, CAD eliminated in 02.5.

 

If your looking for reliability and easy power increase. Id say go with a 96 to early 98 12 valve With a 5 speed all it takes is a little grinding and some gauges and a kdp kit and you will be happy..... and hooked.

53 blocks started with the 98 12 valves and lasted until 01 i think someone help me here. I have heard that there are no reports of cracked 12 valve 53 blocks again not sure there are ways to tell if the truck has one but i cant seem to find the link. Do a search for VP44 and KDP those are the main downfalls of the different engines. The vp44 is the Injection pump on the 24 valve and the KDP is the Killer Dowell pin on the 12 valves and i have heard a few 24 valves had this problem.

just an exsample how bout k-n air filter an a 10 plate an straight pipe stacks how much horse that put out on newer 12 vals.? im not plannin on pullin heavy loads offin but will have the extra horse when i need it thanks rollin
