Well if I was to pick a year out of the 2nd Gen's I would say 2002 was the best of the 2nd Gens... It's got the least amount of problems.

I gotta agree 01.5/02... No 53, no KDP, NV5600, Quad-Cab. The Quad-Cab is a must for me... Really tough to load a miter saw and air compressor with back doors that don't open.

I still think that if you want to build a power wagon you need to find a good ol' 1st gen without the 53 block, KDP, and a few other things...

The more I read , I can afford a new 06's ,,,but I'm the that tinkers ...I owned a automotive shop but only do that stuff for my self these days , I figured buy a 2002 and use that extra spending money for all the after market improvements .... I see alot of 02's with low mile's around .

But the big question is what to with ford ...lol

Thanks guys

Don't mean to hijack the thread but I noticed alot of owners from up North posting to this thread. I'm looking at a 95 4WD 5 speed that was originally from Maine and I have noticed rust under the doors at the bottom inside edge. Where are all of the spots to look for on the 2nd gens and do any of you have enough rust on parts such as shock towers or other suspension parts that they have had to be changed?

(In the middle of Idaho)

As for the rust on the bottom of the doors... Nope...

As for rust on the under carriage... Nope...

When I wash the truck... I wash more that just the paint. I at least rinse down the frame, the engine, wheel wells, etc. This will help keeping the road salts from attacking the metals.
