Best oil to use

Best oil to use
Just bought my first Dodge truck, an '05 2500 CTD Laramie, why did I wait so long...
Question: If I have to add oil to it prior to it being serviced, what oil should I buy? I'm not worried about the expense just the choice.

To keep the sparks from flying...let me say - make sure it is rated CI-4 or CI-4+. This means good for diesel temps & pressures and will give Max soot control.
The brand is up to you!
Synthetics have a few benifits over mineral oil based diesel oil...some feel the cost is not worth it...some would not use anything else in their babies! You can add either one to you factory oil with no problems...should probably be same weight which I assume is still 15w-40 in the 05's.
Universally accepted is this...Use Fleetguard Oil Filters and change your oil & filter at good safe intervals. Do this with any brand of CI-4 oil and your truck will stay healthy for a long time.
Congrats on the new truck.....and welcome to the DTR!

PS: I personally love Amsoils Marine Diesel Oil (15w-40), if your interested in Synthetics....
and Delo 400 in 15w-40 if you prefer to buy petroleum oils.
Let the battle begin!

Rocky,
Truck has 350 miles so I'll be on dino for awhile. I appreciate the feedback and since I like fishing, the can of worms will help a lot.
Thanks to all for the information.

Congratulaitons on your new rig.
I ditto the comments on waiting before switching to Synthetics (if you decide to go that route). I have been using Rotella-T 15w-40 every 3500-5000 miles without any trouble except for a new turbocharger at 43,000 miles!!!
