Bad tranny servicing

Friend told me his pal picked up a 04 PSD auto. put about 9K on it and was palnning a trip pullin a big toybox. Decided to have the trans serviced, 9K dont know why?, nontheless took it in, did a flush, took off on trip and trannie cratered pullin a hill, tow it in to ferd and they tell him it went from the incorrect fliud use. They actually had it sampled for warranty reasons. The shop performing the flush said "you didnt specify what fluid, we use universal" with this he lost warranty claims and it cost him 7k for a trans. Guess I dont have to say what the moral of the story is. Gotta watch em like a buzzard anymore.

Ahhh, reason # 5,892 to do your own maintenance. I'll bet that somewhere in that quick-lube place is a sign that describes how all of thier products and services are guaranteed! As my 11th grade english teacher used to say, "the word is not the thing."

I would have an attorney write a letter to the shop. My position would be that I shouldn't have to tell a supposedly professional shop what kind of fluid to use. I'd also file a complain with ASE and consumer affairs. Also with the local better business bureau and chamber of commerce.
