Iv built several out of 16 gauge, they work well and are tough. You can weld them with a stick if your familiar with spray welding, strike an arc pull the rod away as far as you can without losing the arc, it works great. Aluminum is lighter but alo expensive and with out a tig it can be a pain to weld,
