I cant believe what people keep wanting for these trucks

Most of us can go in tomorrow and get an 07/08 4x4, 4 door for 32k-36k depending on options brand new.

I bought my 03 slt 4dr 4x4 6spd for 24k with 46k miles last april so figuring depreciation in its a 5 year old truck i would assume a 4k per year depreciation is pretty close to reality in my book on one of these trucks.

alot of people and dealerships have these 03's and 04's with 45k-75k miles listed for $25k-$28k sitting right next to equal eqpt new trucks listed for $32-$34k.

does it make any sense to anyone that a 4 or 5 year old truck with 45k-75k miles has lost only $4k-$8k essentialy $1k-$2k per year????

It amazes me everyday thought i would put my thought for the day out there

Just as there are many people who keep a tight grip on their money, there are just as many willing to pay a lot to get what they want. I see these rigs listed for a wide range of prices also around these parts. The dealers have the "RARE" sticker on the windshield and it makes me laugh. I searched for about two years for the right truck and when I found it I was surprised to get it for less than I was ready to spend. Go figure?

My guess is the demand for pre '07 emission diesels is going up.

yep

picked up a 93 with 130k miles 4x4 ext cab 5spd $6200 that i just pawned off to my uncle, acutally bought it for him because i knew he was looking, and got 2 96 12v's for my yard guys to drive with 140k and 179k both 4x4 5spds with good paint and new brakes respectively for 6900 on the reg cab and 7400 on the ext cab

all 3 bought during this last month and 1/2, the 12v's have been fairly reasonable lately..... finally, i remember when people wanted 15-19 for a 1996 or 95 12v with 150k miles when you could pick up an 01 24v with 80k for 17-19 really baffling to me the wide spectrum that prices span. last night there were 6 or 7 12v's on autotrader below 200k miles and under 10k.

its kinda baffling even right before the end of 07 when 5.9's were still available some guys would have an 06 listed for 32-34k stock with 20-40k miles and the new ones with 0 miles 5.9 ect were selling on the lot for the same price. what really gets me is that for a friends abatement company he just purchased 2 07's and an 08 cummins big horns SB's 4x4s $33 out the door 2 from dave smith and one from lithia and that was in january.

i realize people pay for what they want but it sometimes makes me scratch my head

I ran into an 01 drw ex-cab 4x4 6spd in Nov of 07 with 10400 miles on it. Paid 23 grand and glad to do it. The oem tires were dry rotted off it but its almost showroon new. Gets better fuel economy than my f-150 and is three times the truck.

Diesels in general are upping in price everywhere! Look at prices on ebay for VW caddy pickups! $6,000 for a mid 80's vehicle! Who would have ever thunk it?!?!? Price a VW Jetta or an old Mercedes too......I just sold a 33 year old Mercedes for $1300 ! Glad to see it go for that price!

I paid $30K for a '06 with 8900 miles on it. That was some serious depreciation. I could probably sell it for a profit today with only 11500 miles on it.

Have you seen what a fully loaded Megacab is selling for these days??? $56,000 for one with everything on it. Holy Cow! That's insane.
The dealers are asking lots for them but they sure aren't that nice when you are trading yours in....

Seems like it doesn't matter if it's all cleaned up, looking like brand new w/ all service receipts. They still a** ram the heck out of you.

I am really puzzled at all diesel truck prices it seems that used prices followed what the new ones went up. Diesel is $3.50 a gallon here in good ol Central Mo., what it the world is keeping the used prices up?

The local Dodge dealer had a truck **** near identical to mine except it was a tan 6spd with I think 84k and they were asking 29k for it. Over 10k more then what they were asking for mine... and the bed was in way worse condition then mine. It was deffinitely used for towing with 5th wheel plate holes and the bed in the condition it was. But those 6spd trucks are HARD to find in my area and they knew it.

I was looking to trade my truck in a while back and their first trade in offer was 10k... ya know that "true market value" BS. I laughed and told him I'd like to know where he was seeing trucks like mine were priced like that b/c I'll go buy one... I told him that wasn't even close to what I wanted b/c I knew they'd put mine on the lot for atleast 18k. I think at that point he realized he was gonna have to work to get me to sign some papers... which at obviously I didn't.

I've had the truck in my sig.,for sale since last September.,has 140k highway miles in excellent condition, pure stock. I have not had the first offer at 22k.,the local dealer said the truck is worth 19k. wholesale.I guess its the high mileage.
