amsoil for diesels

I use to run amsoil and their oil filter in my dodge gas for a year with no problems. Can I do the same with my cummins. My dealer says yes, with their filter, but I have heard that the stock oil will not handle the diesels dirty oil for a year, or can I just change the filter, Any thoughts.

Diesel oil is different than gasser oil. As long as you run a diesel rated product from amsoil, you will be fine. They actually make an oil filter for our trucks as well. There are many people on the board here doing what you want to with good results.

Amsoil produces first rate diesel or "C" quality motor oil plus some of the finest gear lubes available.

A 15W-40 engine will be a bit thick for your winter, but otherwise a top choice.
I use the Amsoil version of the Donaldson air filter. I really like it. Take it out and blow it clean 4 times a year. I've had it for 4 years.
Change out the differential lube to Amsoil.
Sorry, skip the oil filter and use a Wix or Fleetguard.

In the dealer magazine i get from Amsoil was a story of a man in virginia or maryland who is an owner/operator of a 1980's Mack cabover. He immediately changed all lubes to Amsoil when brand new and used a engine oil by-pass filtration system from Amsoil. Fast forward to 1 million miles later. The owner buys another new Mack and changes to Amsoil. Dealer takes the previous Mack and tears engine down to see what bearings, cam, crank, etc, looks like. They mic for spec's and all components meet spec's they reassemble engine and resell truck. OH!! I FORGOT TO MENTION HE NEVER CHANGED HIS ENGINE OIL.... JUST TOPPED IT OFF!! That's the quality of Amsoil.

I use the 15/40 HD diesel and marine oil in mine but I change it about every 12k. I have never had a sample taken but Im sure it would go longer.

I've been running Amsoil in mine since I bought it in 99. I change it once a year whether it needs it or not. Last change was the 5w40 It holds fine all summer and winter. I also have the BP100 and monster full flow filter in a dual bypass set up.
I know that I could probably go 2 years between oil changes but I would feel bad if I didn't spend some time every year checking fluids, hose condition, belts etc.
There is a downside to my setup, It costs me, a dealer, over a hundred dollars to do an oil change. It hurts all at one time but it's probably no more then it would cost If I used dino and changed it 2 or three times a year.

I am on year two with the series 3000 5w 30 . I have the bypass oil filters on the truck . Oil samples is the only way too know if your ok or not . With every sample you send in they always print out your previous samples so you can watch the trends . They tell you if its good for futher use an exsplain how to interperit information . The first year you change the full flow if the sample comes back good . The nest year you change both full flow an bypass . They say the bypass is good for 60000mi or every 2nd change of the full flow . I,ve been useing there products in everything I own since 1985.
Theres lots of info on there site about how to use there products .

I'm thinking of switching to Amsoil too and was just wondering why you say to skip the Amsoil filter? Something I should know about their filters?

Also, anyone using the Amsoil fuel additives?

I just switched to amsoil HDD 5W 30 diesel oil last change.....i liked it so much.....I bought some diesel concentrate + clod flow improver its awfully cold where i am (-23 C today). Can't decide if its better, worse or the same, yet. PM me and i'll keep you updated... so far so good - i mean my truck started after work today, so how bad can it be?!

With the oil my truck sounds much better on start up, no whine or screech what so ever. Also got some saber pro 2 stroke oil to run in my chain saw....can't wait to fire it up! Hate to sound like a commercial, but dang i wish i'd have tried this stuff sooner!

I always thought it wasn't a good idea to switch to any synthetic oil till about 15k miles.
Apparently synthetic oil is too slick and doesn't allow proper wear in.

Thanks guys. I think I'm going to switch everything over. Some of the stuff here is using Rotella, some Royal Purple, still others Valvoline. Then there's Power Service for the fuel and two stroke and bar oil for the saws. I thought it might be nice to be able to get everything from one source and Amsoil seems to carry everything I need. Just needed to know if all of it was any good or not.
