I'm in the 600 mile club with my Corolla. It was an effort, took a bit less than 14 gallons, and had to cruise at 55 mpg. I achieved 44 mpg. Not bad with a gasser. Normal around town is 37.5 mpg.

I got 41.2 mpg out of my little pos crx last tank. I drove it like a grandma, short shifted, babied, everything. amazing what 1.5 liters with 235k miles can do for economy, but my lawn mower has better acceleration than the crx.

that car is so beat up, my friends wife was driving his ctd last october, backed on top of the car(cause she didnt see it) and stopped when the truck wouldnt go anymore. she had high centered the rear diff on the hood. 1 tire hanging off the drivers side, the other on the pass fender. smasher her up pretty good, didnt touch the truck. she had to buy me 2 new headlight buckets, and a hood latch. try keeping that from your buddy.

I have gotten as high as 21.5 on a trip from Wyoming to Maine via Canada.
I have also gotten 20.7 in colder weather.

This is with a dually carrying 85 gallons of biodiesel in the bed along with everything else we we taking with us.

As far as DTE numbers LOLOL I have seen 855 on it.and my record fro combined distance traveled and DTE is well 927. my record where DTE and distance traveled crosses over is 390.

THose are all fun to keep me busy on long trips which I have many. So far the truck has 184,600 miles on it and it is a 2005.

Considering it is a dually and I run with the bed loaded and always drive the speed limit or 3-5 over I am very happy to average 19+ on long trips and as high as 21.5 for a tankful and clsoe to 20mpg for the entire 2200 mile trip to Maine.

800 miles on a tank though is never gonna happen. 700 maybe but I am not usually that brave.

Have any of you high mileage guys verified that your odometer is accurate? If so, how did you do it?

Apparently you dont understand what "Average" means. For that 830 miles I drove on the highway at posted and above speeds (60-70 mph), stop and go traffic ("rush hour") and side streets (speed limits of 30-45 mph). Stopping for one minute after driving 70 mph for the last 30 miles will kill your "average" mph. I have made my daily commute on the weekend with no traffic and been able to get there in :45-:50 minutes. During the week, it increases to 1:15-1:30. That's alot of sitting time. So your first statement has no merit, and your second one has no point.

Lets try again

Diggin up the Dead!! Have been somewhat bored with the commute this week and last week. Decided to try and hit the 800 mile mark again. Currently at 783 with 1/8 of a tank left. It would appear that 900 miles is the "OMG!" realm for these trucks with a stock tank.

I've gotten 770 miles on a stock tank (with vent kit) with fuel to spare. The low fuel light had not come on yet. I only filled up because I was in the middle of nowhere. I was all highway drivibg 1800RPM.

I dont know how you guys do it guessing your pipe drops lower in tank.I have a 2nd gen and get about 500 miles per fill.but with light on and alarm going can only fit 28.5 gals letting foam stop and shaking bed to get air out. tried the trick of letting it run out once.still was 29 gallons to fill and a pain to bleed.Guess I need what you folks have as a setup.

2RamsNoCash - For some reason, the 3rd gen guys can get more fuel in their tanks. Obviously the tanks are larger (whether the book indicates it or not), and there's no ventectomy for the 2nd gen trucks as far as I'm aware.

As for your 29 gallons or less of fuel, you have to trust your math. If you know you're getting 20 mpg (for instance, to make things easy), then you should be able to run to 680 miles, and put 34 gallons in it. It's up to you to trust your math and push it that far. May not be worth it though.

I don't push it, but there have been several times towing that I knew where my next fuel stop was, and that I was getting about 13 mpg (towing fairly heavy), and wound up getting 33 to 34 gallons. I won't lie, there was a bit a puckering going on, and it's not something that I would want to do regularly.

828.6. Average speed was right around 39.8 mph (stop/go/highway/rushour/sidestreets). Calcualted mpg was 22.82. The pump clicked at 32.6, topped off at 36.318. As you can imagine, with the 6spd, most of the mileage gains were on the side roads and traffic/rushour. This is the seconds time I've tried for the 800 mile club. Seems my max range is about 820-830 (last time was 830.1). On a side note, I filled up at Wallyworld (Murphy Oil). The pump said LSD (500PPM). I might try again with this tank to see if there is any real difference between the fuels.

I've got 39.5gal in my truck with DTE on 0, I don't trust the DTE at all...I bought two 5gal diesel cans after the pump clicks off I use those to fill up the rest of the way, a lot faster than pump-click-pump-click-pump-click...

I fill up every 500 miles or 2 weeks regardless of fuel gauge now.

Sheez you guys are nuts. I normally fill my truck up at 1/4 tank and it's around 350 miles.

If I drive it right, 350 miles comes in less than a 1/4 tank. Usually about 215-220 before it comes off of the full mark. If my fuel gauge were linear, I would get about 1100 miles to a tank!! But as someone stated earlier, the needle falls like a dead fly after a 1/2 tank (450-550 miles). If I put a 75 gallon transfer tank on my truck, I wouldnt have to visit the gas station but once a month!! Course, watching the pump tally about $300 would be kinda hard to take.....It was hard to take the $97.29 to fill it up last night...
