I thought mileage was calculated like this....
1.how many miles you traveled on the last fill-up.
2.how many gallons you put in to refill that tank.
example
I drive 600 miles fill up
with 32.00 gallons divide the two numbers..
--------------------
18.75 miles per gallon
Right???

i dont do anything to my rig to improve mileage. I have a crx beater for that. I only mod my truck for towing power. if it goes way faster-fine. if it gets better economy-fine.
i was trying to answer charlie "But how much did it cost you to get there? it can get to a point that mileage/power is not worth it." not start a war.

Yeh it is. But If you put in more on one fill-up than the last, it's kind of a guessing game. Thats why I guessed at how much fuel I used in the original tankfull. Cause I filled up with alot more yesterday than I did in Commerce, GA on Sunday.

Thats why I always fill up with ~2 gallons after the fist click of the pump. If I put the same in everytime I'm pretty confident in my mileage calculations. So far my current tank is at 630 miles with 3/8 of a tank left. But I dont think I will be joining the 800 mile club. I have a 34 gallon tank BTW.

charlie - I think you may need to clarify
Well, if you spend $5,000 to get 10 mpg better, there is a break even point somewhere. The tuners I've looked at, edge, etc, will ususly get you about 2-3 mpg improvement, if you can drive it normal after the fun power increase, which gives you about a 5 years of driving to break even before you start saving anything. Spend more than that, and the break even point pushes out even further. Even if you didn't do it for economy, there's still economics involved and a break even point somewhere. (i just love these little coffee drinking guys)

Funny, my DTE never goes over 620. Got 712 out of the last tank. Read 620 for the first 100 miles. Parked, started, read 580. *shrug* I know it's only an estimate based on avg. but why would it max out at 620 on every fill-up?
