600hp powerchoke with stock tranny
So I got into this fight with this guy on youtube, he says the majority of people prefer auto in a diesel pickup for towing. I disagreed, and explained why. He then comes at me saying autos are stronger and a whole bunch more stuff including that the new powerstrokes are pushing 600hp on stock trannys, is this true? Has anyone heard anything like this?

I don't care who builds the truck, 600hp on a stock tranny will fail. Dodge will crap out on 100 hp over stock, the cheby alison will go into limp mode if you over power them. The mighty ford will fail too. Will it take it for a little while? Probably. But rest assured, it will fail.
Also, fighting with someone on youtube, in my opinion is pointless. Its probably some 46 year old sitting in his mom's basement trying to be someone he is not.

Yes sir the torque shift will handle 500 hp with no problems at all, 600 hp for a short period of time, as was already stated. I am not sure of the new 6 speed. FYI, the torque Shift is rated to 33k gvw right off the show room floor. The early models had a grove for a snap ring that was not machined correctly causing a snap ring to fail which cascaded into a grenaded tranny. Once that was fixed they became extremely durable and reliable units. I wish I had one in my truck.

From what I read about the snap ring issues were caused by repeated and excessive shifting from drive to reverse. The ones that saw the snap ring fail the most were the guys plowing snow. I have a relatively mild tune in my 6.0 about 100HP through a SCT programmer. To help the Torqshift live the line pressure needs to be increased. Custom SCT tune will do this.
Gunny, stop picking on me for having a 6.0. LOL, just kidding.

I personally think they are an excellent tranny so unless your 12v is at a ridiculous amount of power and torque then no. There is no valve body in the 5R110, every function is electronically controlled, including line pressures. So you would need some type of stand alone controller to operate it. With the 5r110 you can change nearly every single operating parameter with a programmer.

I have been looking into putting a 5.9 cummins in our 05 F-350 powerstroke. I have not had any trouble with the torque shift transmission.
The company that I am talking with won't do a torque shift anymone in a conversion. They say the most they can get out of the tranny is 40,000 miles. They say it is the low end torque that the torque shift transmission cant take. Which I guess we all know that the power stroke does not have low end power.
