The old 7.3's were good motors from what i understand. They do have some cavitation problems if the coolant is the wrong kind, but other than that; they seem to be a pretty durable/reliable motor. Im still thinking you could get a 1st gen cummins for what one of those would cost. And dont be scared of high miles on a cummins, if the trucks in good shape, and the motor runs good. They will last forever.

I would also still look for a cummins. These other engine a v-8, which means two more cylinders to deal with. Not like the I-6 the cummins has. And don't forget about all of the problems with glow plugs. Don't get me wrong, I have alot of friends with 7.3's and they love them. They are just not for me.

posted earlyer , well it let go 2 days ago the 96 6.5 TD just came apart had a crack in the block at #3 main now it has a 2 piece crankshaft !!!!! buy a CUMMINS
it will out live any truck its put in
