General Diesel Discussion Talk about general diesel engines (theory, etc.) If it's about diesel, and it doesn't fit anywhere else, then put it right in here.

6.4L info from the fleet side of Ford. Its not even offered on the 650/750 anymore.

One thing that caught my eye was that the 6.4L has a PCM controlled fuel cooler pump that pumps fuel through a seperate radiator to cool the fuel. But at the same time has a fuel heater coming from the tank. So let's heat it, then cool it back down.

Also, it doesn't have hose clamps on the radiator hoses anymore, it uses CLIPS!!!! With a special type of hose, with special ends.

Dual EGR Coolers
Fuel Coolers
Fuel Heaters
Extra Large Radiator (which is not called a radiator anymore, its a Cooling Module )
Dual Cats
Twin Turbos

Made to be a dealer only serviced truck from the looks of it all. No wonder these "things" are going to be over $50,000 bucks. Built in warranty costs passed on to the buyer, and enough extra crap to fill a barn with.

Note that the 6.4L is not even available on the F-650 and F-750. The base engine is a 200hp/520ft.lbs 6.7L Cummins going up to a 325/750ft.lbs hp Cummins, along with the Cat C7 300hp/860ft.lbs.

I liked the part that say no special wiring on the cab because it has to be removed so the engine can be serviced

Good post - thanks for the link.

Now if they would only put in the 5.9 (errrr, I mean the 6.7) in the F250 to F550 trucks, my 'next' truck choice would be easy.

They used to list the 6.0 as the base engine in the F650 and 750, but I've never seen one...

Man, I got to find some of that "distinctive Red" color paint. It must be one heck of a Benefit for them to list it as such.

Despite all of the 6.4's repair-inhibiting complexity, I'll still bet money that it will be a torque monster.

That's so the mechanics can see them at a distance, probably won't get too many looks up close....

A torque monster that won't run more than 300 hours is a useless torque monster....
