6.2 injector install
I ordered a set of injectors over a month ago and they just came in monday. the question i have though is do i have to remove the intake to take the fuel lines off the injector pump or can i just carefully hold them aside while i replace the injectors? Anyone know?

Its easier if i remember right to take the intake off. Those lines are not designed to bend. better safe then sorry. it only takes a short time to take the intake off if i remember right. Haven't worked on one in a long time

i believe the last time i did mine i just tied the lines out of the way but it was a pain in the butt as the little brackets that hold all the lines together are hell to get back in place, and if you have a newer 6.5 exhaust manifold on the right side with a turbo setting on it forget it.the intakes can be removed without draining the water, and a little more time but lots easier to replace inj's.also they take a special socket, but i believe you can use like an inch and 3/16 if i remember right

I was in a hurry when I changed them and I used a deep well 30mm socket it was a little loose but it worked fine. Now that I've gotten that out of the way the motor still knocks. I dont know what to do. I need a compression tester made for diesels and that wont drain my wallet. Anyone know where I can find a good one.

yes, I have loosened each of the individual lines, and the rpm fell accordingly on each cylinder. The knock is really noticable and speeds up with the engine. once the engine warms up and i shut it off smoke comes out the intake as well. none of this occured before the knocking started.

I worked on a buddies 6.2 that had an audible knock.. The problem was that the rollers on the lifters for cylinder 4 I believe (2 back on the drivers side) were worn right down and ground down the camshaft. It looked like roller stopped turning and kept riding on the cam until it wore through. The roller fell off the lifter when I pulled it out of engine, worn into a "C". The push rod was bent too, couldn't explain that one.
He didn't want to spend money, so we pillaged one of his scrap engines for a lifter and put the head back on.
As for compression, all you need is a 1/8 NPT fitting to go into the glowplug hole and up to the 14/18 MM sparkplug thread of your compression gauge (over 300 psi).
If you are getting a whitish smoke during operation out of either bank, look for a cracked head. Very common.

Did you pull the motor out of the truck or do all of these repairs while it was in side the engine compartment? I'm assuming it was out seeing how the cam was ground and you probably had to replace it. How long did these repairs take you?

We did not replace the cam.
All the repairs for the lifters was in frame. We did not take the engine out. Pulling the head was a pain with the brake booster in the way, but the exhaust was the biggest problem for us to get undone.
Took us most of the day for sure. Trip to town for gaskets, glow plugs, coolant etc. It was 2 guys, me and my good friend on it and we have done 2 overhauls prior, so we had a good idea how it comes apart. The cam was pitted as we could see it, but he just needed the truck for the next day for hauling bales.
We never did repair that engine, he sold it a year later..
