4BT in a Chevy S-10 blazer?
HI:
I currently own a Chevy s-10 blazer. It's a 1992 4x4 model with the 4.3L V-6 and an auto tranny. It has almost 200,000 miles on it and it's still going strong although the gas mileage isn't that great, 15 mpg. My CTD gets 18.6 around town!
Has anyone converted one of these to use the Cummins 4BT engine which I understand is the 4 cyl version of the 6BT which I now have. What would be necessary to hook up to the tranny? Is there an adapter to go between the bell housing of the tranny to the 6BT that would work for my situation?
Also would I need to change the differential ratios to compensate for the lower RPM's of the engine? I have the OD option on my tranny so maybe the engine would wind high enough for 70 mph on the highway. How would running at say 3200 rpm all the time affect engine life.
I really like my blazer but the engine is getting tired so the 4BT would be a great option. I estimate I could get 30 mpg or better.

I haven't heard of any adapters for this conversion. It's off to the machine shop for all your needs. Before you spend any money on this project, get a tape measure out and see if it will even go in the eng compartment. Good luck
