4 cyl turbo diesel for my Jeep

Looking for any info on a good 4 cyl turbo Diesel that I could put in my Jeep. I want decent HP and good torque still. Need to know where I can Find one and what one to look for. Thanks.

How about a Cummins? The 4 cylinder version of the 5.9 has been put in at least one Wrangler. The 4BT/4BTA/ISB4 is a 3.9 liter, weighs a little under 800 lbs. All the same kinds of things we do to our Dodges can be done to these with similar results. 2/3 the engine = 2/3 the torque and power. Versions with an injector pump suitable for road use can be found in bread trucks. Thread on a Cummins 4 cylinder Jeep swap.

I'd have to agree with wannadiesel, the 3.9 4 cyl cummins would be an excellent choise. Although I thought the 5.9 was the one that weighed 800 pounds. I could be wron there, but then the 256 I6 and the 4.0l weren't exactly light in the wranglers either.

I think so...a big block gasser is around 500 lbs, so an 800 lb 5.9 Cummins sounds about right.

Just be aware of the rating of the axles and ability of the jeep! I've got a 51 ****** with a 350 Chevy w/auto trans. The axles are rated for 80 HP not that 350 Chevy... So never the less I learn my lesson after breaking the rear axle, springs, rear drive shaft... Etc.. that you must consider the HP/Torque change and what it does to the rest of it!

So now I'm try to find way of detuning a engine a bit... Funny everyone is try for more HP/Torque I'm backing down...

One of my brothers has an old Chevy Luv pickup with an Isuzu diesel in it. The truck belongs in a scrap heap, but his boys like to toy around with it on the farm. They added a big honkin turbo from a John Deere tractor to it, the exhaust goes straight up from the turbo. It's a hoot to drive around. You might look for one of these, but hope no one mistakes it for a Duramax

Yeah...that new diesel dragster from a few months back was having problems w/ their driveline because they were using a driveline out of a Top Fuel dragster...the Top Fuels have more HP, but that souped up twin turbo Cummins had enough torque to snap the ring gear into pieces and fry the clutch!

Jeep is coming out with a 2.8 in 05. My dealer has info and told me yesterday that he had just got a video and to stop by and watch it. I believe it is in the Liberty.

Grumman makes a lot of bread trucks. You want one from the mid '80's to mid '90's. You might also want to take a look at the engine swap forum on the TDR site for more info on this.

my final question involves trans. I read in another thread the nv4500 bolts to the 3.9. This would mean the AX15 would too right.

Nope, the 3.9 is about 750 lbs. and straight from my Ram's owners manual, the 5.9 is 1025 lbs.
