3rd gen twins on 1st gen

Does anybody know if 3rd gen twins will fit on a 1st gen? I know the manifolds are different but is there anything else that won't fit?

A set of twins that run well on a 3rd gen, will make your 1st gen a horrible lag pig,, and that is even if you can get the turbos to spool atall.

As far as it fitting. I don't think it will.

On the other hand it would be easy to weld up a kit yourself,,, atleast easier than trying to retrofit a 2nd or 3rd gen setup onto your 1st gen...

Why do you say it would be a lag pig? don't they use the same turbo setups with all the gens of cummins? I just might be able to get a set of 3rd gen twins cheap and was hoping they would fit a 1st gen. wonder where the clearance issues would be......

I'm with Merrick on this one. If they're that cheap, I'd buy them to resell. Use the rest of the money to fab your own set. The twins setups that I've built/seen only fit a very specific model year. Typically the setups are 1st gen, 12v 2nd gen, 24v 2nd gen and CR 3rd gen. They're all different in little ways (factory equipment positioning, heat exchanger, etc...).

My twins and other 3rd gen sets i've seen are very compact compared to other years,
i can tell you that my first gen had twice the space under the hood than my 3rd gen,
and i don't see any reason why they would not physicaly fit, you'll might have to fab up you own down pipe.

As for spool up, with your mods you should not have any problem, i can run mine with no extra fuel, and 3rd gens fueling sucks with no boost.

You can always try different housings and tune them the way you like.

i don't think fueling will be a problem with me at all. theres a couple things that im holding off with right now cuz of high egts. If i got the twins id do the rest of fueling mods and put in an intercooler

The airflow is considerably more on a 3rd gen, allowing you to run much bigger turbo's, and still spool them reasonably well.

A laggy turbo on a 1st gen, will spool lightning fast on a 3rd gen, and vice versa.

Most of the 1st gen twin kits i've seen use the same turbos has the 3rd gens im not concerned about spool up really, mostly just clearance issues with the piping.
