General Diesel Discussion Talk about general diesel engines (theory, etc.) If it's about diesel, and it doesn't fit anywhere else, then put it right in here.

Looks like a bunch of aluminum shrapnel to me. Still not sold on the whole "lets make a diesel block out of aluminum."

All of my mods are for efficiency/removing emissions garbage, I use my Smarty Jr pod to keep the power at about 180-190 rwhp

Holy crap that scorpion is insane. Im guessing the throttle body is to create heat for regen etc by reducing airflow. Doesnt the 6.7 cummins have a throttle blade in the intake?

Just out of curiosity, which vehicle in your signature (unless you're talking about a different vehicle not listed) are you speaking about?

Both of your trucks will make around 275ish to the wheels STOCK...I'm confused. Perhaps the Smarty Jr can be used to DOWNGRADE the output of the truck? This is why I don't mess with aftermarket crap...too confusing!

my 2007. The smarty POD can be used to reduce power in increments of 0-99 while driving down the road

I figure my truck might make around 400 rwhp on sw3, so i keep it set at 45% which would be 180 rwhp

its similar to driving a stock 12 valve

cam for efficiency, turbo opens up the exhaust housing restriction the stock 9cm gave, grid delete, intake horn and exhaust all help airflow. ems hubs give me less rolling resistance and serviceable bearings

the 2006 has all of these except cam and hubs, but it doesnt get driven much either...

I wonder if they are going to offer the scorpion with the same power level in 450, 550, 650 and 750? Surely they are going to turn it down to say 300 hp and 800 tq or something similar?

Too bad ford didnt decide to build an inline 6 diesel. Look at the 300-6 gas motor. That was one of the best gas engines ever built in my opinion..So i know they could figure out how to build an I-6 diesel

^^^^ Yes they could build a I6 diesel engine (would it be good, I don't know). But due to public perception and them having a V8 diesel for 20+ years, if they went to a I6 it would be like accepting that their previous decisions were wrong (I won't go there) and EVERYBODY knows that a diesel V8 is WAY MORE powerful than a pesky little six banger.

I'm not sure if a V8 can reasonably put out torque that low to have such a low HP number in comparison to TQ. We know our I6s can, but I don't think it's as easy for a V8.

I think the new Ford diesel engine is Frugly. I can say I've owned and know of many a Ford inline 6 and that kept on running no matter how bad it was abused. The only thing I hated about the one I owned was the ignition box or what ever it was called they put on the distributor that would cause the engine to quit.

When I tell people that my truck is a diesel, its like "yeah, whatever.." Then you tell them its only a 6cyl and they are immediately interested...

Your foot throttle can do the same thing!!!

I am just looking forward to driving one. I just hope it doesn't die and need to be towed in like the first time I test drove a 6.0 back in 2003

Just think If I buy one of these F450 6.7 diesels you all can get honest feedback on how good or bad this truck really is. Then you all won't have to complain just looking at a picture of the engine!!!
