1st oil change ??
How many of you guys were always told you should change your oil the first time at 500-1000 miles with a new engine? Changed mine @ 1200 yesterday and while waiting for all the oil to drain and having about the same amount of blood removed by mosquitoes,I was wondering how many people do this. I suppose it's to remove the metal shavings and stuff allegedly present after the manufacturing process. As a side note, mine was pretty black already, probably due to having read the thread with the email from the Cummins Powermaster recommending that the motor be worked at about 1k. Went and picked up some rock for my parking spot in the back yard and then went on a 3 hr. tour to Cedar Rapids, IA to pick up some oil filters and a fuel filter. Truck may or may not have scaled @ 10200 with 1/2 tank fuel. Surprising how heavy that stuff is, and how stiff the springs are on these....

I know they recommend an early drain for new tractor engines but haven't heard about it on road vehicles for a long time. I've read where all Cummins engines are test run then drained before shipping, perhaps this is good enough.
I still think an early first oil change is a good idea myself, certainly couldn't hurt anything.
