1986 toyota 4bt swap

hey guys i was wondering about swaping a 4bt into a 1986 toyota pickup with a 6" lift. wondering if any of you have donr it or if it is even feasable. it came with a 22 re but now has a 22r (got rid of the fuel injection) but it is needing some help and i think that it would be cool to put in the 4bt. any thoughts or opinions on this would be greatly appreciated. thanks

I'm sure it could be done, but you may want to reduce the lift and beef the suspension up some. The 4bt weights over 800 lbs, a 350 v8 Chevy is around 650, just for comparison. Maybe a 4-cylinder Isuzu diesel from a delivery truck instead?

You'd have to solid axle swap the truck, now way it would clear the oil pan with all that IFS in the way. Awhile back I saw a first gen 4x4 toy with a 4BT in it. That would rule!

I have a friend who seriously looked at swapping some form of a diesel into his 1985 4runner. The conclusion that he came to was that the best engine would be an isuzu. The weight was more reasonable and the engine wasn't too tall. A 4bt could be made to do it but it is real heavy and would require a large suspension and body lift. What my friend ended up doing was buying a factory diesel toyota. These exist and they are really good and you don't have the headaches(or fun depending on who you are) of doing the swap.

Swapping yota's is getting more and more popular. I used to have a 2nd gen 4runner, and had plans to swap in a yota diesel. Front clip from Japan or even Canada if you can find them and thats how its done. There's lots of info on the web if you search it out...check Yotatech, etc, and look around.
