No offense, but THAT is what bothers me. I think having a truck would mean a lot less if it was just given to me. I understand that a parent wants their kid to be happy and wants to buy them stuff, but I really don't think it teaches a person anything to be given $40,000 birthday presents like its normal...

Sorry, but its just one thing that irks me...

I'm 16 and I drive my 93 Ram fine. Mind you I know how to driven decent and I grew up driving on my grandpa's farm. 85% of the girls at my school (and guys for that matter) scare the bejeezus outta me with their driving. I'll admit I'm not perfect in driving skills, but I know how big my truck is and I dont make stupid moves with it (does blowing donuts in the fields at the farm count as stupid? lol). My dad lets me drive his 04' Nissan Titan from time to time, he knows I am responsible with it and I dont drive like an idiot.

But it is nice having the biggest vehicle at school, not too many people argue with me when I'm driving the ol' girl

I gotta sympathize. It took me 20 yrs to get a decent truck. But I would like to think I appreciate it more because I know what it took to get it. My buddy was given a brand new 6.6 Trans Am when he turned 17 (in NJ) He wrecked it 5 times only to be repaired by daddy. Meanwhile I had an old '69 Mach1 (only ford that should have been built was Mustang) worked my butt off to keep it running but it was my baby that never met anyone by accident
After I shoehorned a 429 into it all my buddy saw was tailights.

Yeah man, seeing the ladies driving those really nice rigs chaps me. I know a chick that has had 4 speeding tickets, totalled her car once, and gotten in two wrecks, and her insurance premium is still lower than mine, and I have had 0 anything.

As for chicks in the city, I know I live in the city, but every weekend I used to go to my grandpa's farm, and do some work. I learned how to drive in a f250 extended cab longbed, so the switch to my now 1991 F350 regular cab LWB, was not that big of a deal. But I remember you saying she took a long time to back it out of the driveway, so my best bet is she didn't learn to drive on a farm.

i think it goes like this young girls have more accidents, but they are usually fender benders. when young guys have accidents they usually total at least one vehicle.

Yeah man, this is probably the best part of driving a big truck. I used to get honked at a lot because I always come to a complete stop at stop signs, and this stop sign by my house is notorious for roll-throughs. Now that I'm in my 1991 F350, I haven't gotten honked at once. I have, however, looked in my rear view mirror to see people locking up their brakes to avoid hitting me because they thought I was going to roll through, and now realize they have to completely stop. Those dual rear wheels will really make people think twice about honking.

And even better is dual rear wheels WITH a shotgun AND a stick shift. I love pulling up to a stoplight, and rolling slightly back, and then watching the people behind me not pull up closer than about 30 feet.

yeah its way to common. theres a guy at my school that his parents bought him a 1/2 chevy gasser and then paid to have flames painted on it and new tail lights, running boards, hood scoops, roll bar, K/C lights, etc etc etc. and i asked him what motor it had in it and you know what his reply was??

"Oh i dunno, my parents bought it for me."

I know and understand that not everyone is able to have a job at a really early age. im just lucky. but come on, this is insane.

what really gets me is when kids my age (18) talk how great there 04 truck is or how big they made there truck and what all they have done to the motor. but when u ask them how they got it they just daddy bought it for me. it easy to have a nice truck when daddy buys it for them. I take great pride in my truck everything i have done to it was with MY money. i bought everything including the the truck. it might not be the best truck but it is mine ALL OF IT. i worked my *** for it and would have it any other way. i dont want a truck gave to me.

All you kids who have worked and bought your own rigs have the advantage over the ones whose parents handed them one. My kids had to work for theirs and take great pride in that now that they are grown. Yours may not be as new or as nice but it’s yours, you earned it. At some point in time you will look back at realize that you, not them, had the best gift from your parents. The gift of learning to work hard, using your hard earned dollars well, pride in a job well done and pride yourself, respect for what you have and respect for yourself. These kinds of gifts are the ones you receive when you do it on your own. These gifts are the ones that money cannot buy because they are precious gifts that last a lifetime.

Yea I raced a powerstroke with a chip and propane this one time and had him all 3 times we raced. Then when he pulled over to talk to me he was saying how he had this Diesel performance shop do all the work on it. He was probaly 30 and he just stared at me like this when I told him I worked on my truck myself and didnt take it to some performance shop. Me personally I just sit there and laugh at the kids that say their parents buy stuff for them cause you know they dont have a clue as to what they are talking about. And I just sit back and knowing I paid for everything and actually know alittle something about vehicles.

My first car was a 1980 buick regal and cost 400 bucks. My dad didnt help me pay for it because he said I wouldnt appreciate it. Then when I finally had enough money and bought it, he wouldnt let me drive it until I had insurance. That chapped me and I drove it without insurance. Well, he took off the distributor cap (I didnt know much about cars at the time) until I finally made the SIX month payment (he didnt buy the month to month crap). You know what, I thank him for that so much. I now appreciate it more and more. He had a 1990 F150 with the 300 six, and he wouldnt let me drive it until I was out of the house. I prob would have crashed it. Now, I got a real six cylinder and everytime he comes to AK, he loves to drive my truck. He REALLY appreciates it. I am 30 now and everytime I go home to WI, he lets me drive his 03 chevy 2500 gasser without a question. He knows I will take care of it and could fix it if I got in an accident. This chaps my older sisters off because he dont let them drive it.
