Unfortunately, the 1500 diesel was killed in bankruptcy proceedings. Can probably delete this sub-forum.

The way I understand it, they killed the original contract with "old" Chrysler and are now renogotiating new terms with the "new" Chrysler/Fiat. Im hoping it comes out, but it needs to be in a Dodge or I wont buy.

2010 1/2 ton diesel

I agree with the prior post, the contract is now back to square one which also means you may see the CUMMINs logo on a different OEM. Not hard to figure out who since one of the OEMs had supplier issues with their engine mfg of choice. If CUMMINs get 2 OEMs, you wonder how long it will be until the third north american OEM decides to join in.

From what I understand, CUMMINs has a V6 and a V8 in their light duty diesel line up to support SUVs and 1/2 ton trucks.

And that would be.....Ford? Why would Ford outsource, even to Cummins, when they have everything they need already?? The engine destined for the half ton is ready to go. The new one for the Super Duty is nearly ready.

Ill go on the record now and say that there will never be a Cummins under the hood of a Ford pickup from the factory. Never.

Im talking pickups, so the 650 doesnt count

well with the new regulations for madatory mpg for a fleet someone is going to use the v6/v8 cummins. they will all have scr which will help them meet emmision guidlines without the side of the road happenings such as the case with the 6.7. my buddy pulled his emissions crap in his 6.7 after it wouldnt run and he picked up and honest 3-4 mpg. does the 3-4 mile reduction offset the emmsions out out of the pipe? the epa is crap!!! political machine now reaking havoc on all americans. (stepping of the soap box)

This is a rumor, but all Ram trucks may get 8 speed heavy duty trans, and the 1500 Ram may get a cummins or Fiat diesel engine. look for Chrysler 5 year plan coming out first week of Nov.

If the article is correct we do not get a Cummins in a 1500 dodge til 2011.
I would like my 1994 15oo Dodge equipped with a 4.5 L or a 3.8 L or a 2.8 L 4 cylinder in a 1500 dodge. I would like it to haul or tow and get 25-30 mpg. Any one know how to make that happen and what would it cost?

Fiat has either really small diesels, like 2.2L or smaller, or giant industrial diesels that fit in industrial equipment. They don't have anything that you could put in a 1500 and be able to get decent towing and mileage.

Cummins knows that they might have to sit on this engine for a little bit, and they inderstand why. The popularity of the combination of Dodge and Cummins is something neither company will be willing to walk away from because it's bread and butter for both companies, and even in these hard times folks are still buying Dodge trucks with Cummins diesels.

Eventually we as consumers will win and the new Chrysler will need to bring a half ton diesel to market. And just like the last time Dodge needed a diesel, Cummins will be there to answer that call.

The best part is .... Fiat/Chrysler won't have to spend a dime on building a new engine because it's already built, and they can even market it in Europe if they play their cards right. This opens a whole new market for them.
