12V Cummins in a Ford

I have an opportunity to buy a 97-98 12v Cummins that I am told came out of a Ford truck; how do I confirm that were these available in Ford trucks???? Or does it matter???

The motor has 300 kilomteres on it, which is 180k miles....

What model Ford truck?

If it came out of a ford, the owner more than likely did a Cummis swap. I'm assuming you are talking about an F-250 or F-350...

Look on the data plate on the timing cover a lot of the ones in the f-650's were rated at 190 hp that might give you a little help on what it came out of.

I see a lot of school-bus take-outs that even have Ford Blue-Ovals on the valve-covers and intake cross-over(if non-IC).

If out of a bigger Ford or school-bus, they have much bigger oil-pans with the "sump" located in such a manner that the pan must be changed to use them in a ton-sized truck, be it Ford or Dodge.

Also, if out of a school-bus, they use the engine-mounts on the front and rear of the block, instead of the ones located at center.

Does anyone know if you can swap the pan end for end? To have front or rear sump? I know the pickup is different. Never tried it.

Looking at the cold air intake the low turbo mount and the rear engine mount hooked to an ASE bell housing i would say freight shaker or med duty truck such as f650.

Yes, the pan swaps end for end; but, this will not help in making it fit a pick-up-sized truck, as I have already seen several try.

I would not let that keep me from buying that engine if the price is reasonable; one cannot have too many mechanical Cummins engines.

Asking price

He's looking to get $1500.00 out of the engine. Plus he has an NV4500 and he's asking $400.00 for that. Canadian of course!!!!
