12V / 24V Dilemma

The same thought has been going through my mind, I like the chassis of the 98.5s better with the quad cab and compass along with that other fancy stuff. However throttle by wire, and all that other electronic stuff as well as hearing about a lot more VP44 failures than the 12V IP makes me a little biased towards the 12V motor. Also there are larger injectors available for this motor, don't they get a little better fuel mileage as well? So my personal conclusion until I find enough information to change my mind is to find a 98.4 truck with the 98.5 chassis and 12V motor. They exsist, not much different than my 3/92 Eagle Talon with the stronger 6 bolt motor and 4 bolt rear end. Sure the exact one may be hard to find but they exsist. One of the few bad things that come to mind with the 12V could have that your 01 won't have is the KDP. Oh and the TST stage 3 looks pretty nice for the 24Vs, to bad the 12Vs didn't have something that nice.

I'd keep the truck you have. If you didn't have 1 and were looking at both I would have too think long and hard. Personally after owning several extended cab trucks, I will never go back to a regular cab and I will always have 4 doors, whether real doors or Quad. I have small kids and use mine alot. I enjoy wrenching, it's what I do for a living. But I don't really tinker with my own engine that much, I get enough of that at work. I do like the plug and play ability of the 24V even though I haven't used it yet. They both have advantages and disadvantages. It's going to cost you money too trade, if not in actual dollars, then in value. I like mechanical diesels, but I don't regret my electronic one, even after having to change the injector pump. Just my .03.
